What does socialism mean in America? Some recent events suggest we haven’t a clue.

Last Thursday, political commentator Chris Matthews asked Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chair, what distinguished “a Democrat like Hillary Clinton from a socialist like Bernie Sanders”. She stumbled and obfuscated, eventually blurting out that the really important differences were between Democrats and Republicans. The S-word was not something she wanted to discuss.   Continue reading “American, socialist and proud: meet Bernie Sanders’s supporters”

The Denver division of the FBI issued an alert to law enforcement in Colorado and Wyoming over suspicious behavior from “Middle-Eastern males” who have approached families members of military personnel in recent weeks.

The bulletin, issued in July but only attracting attention in recent days, cited an incident when the wife of a military member was “approached in front of her home by Middle-Eastern males” who told her that she was “the wife of a US interrogator.” The alert said when the woman denied the claim the “men laughed.” The individuals eventually left the area, but were seen in the area on other occasions, according to the bulletin.   Continue reading “Read the Alert Issued By the FBI Warning of ‘Middle-Eastern Males Approaching Families’ of Military”

A lawyer representing the family of a Seneca teenager who was shot by police Sunday night said the autopsy shows that Zachary Hammond was shot from behind and his car was not moving, contrary to police reports that the car veered toward the officer during a drug sting.

Eric Bland, a Columbia attorney hired by Hammond’s parents, said he has requested the state Attorney General to call for a statewide grand jury investigation into the incident.   Continue reading “Family’s attorney says Seneca teen shot from behind”

New research shows the average price of cancer drugs has increased 10-fold, from $5,000 in 2000 to more than $100,000 by 2012. At the same time, the average US household income has decreased by about eight percent.

More than 100 oncologists participated in research which found that, on average, Americans are paying 50 to 100 percent more for the same patented cancer drugs than patients in other countries. They argued the high costs are affecting patient care and the American health care system overall.   Continue reading “Price of cancer treatment skyrockets as doctors scramble for solutions”

Criminal sentencing has long been based on the present crime and, sometimes, the defendant’s past criminal record. In Pennsylvania, judges could soon consider a new dimension: the future.

Pennsylvania is on the verge of becoming one of the first states in the country to base criminal sentences not only on what crimes people have been convicted of, but also on whether they are deemed likely to commit additional crimes. As early as next year, judges there could receive statistically derived tools known as risk assessments to help them decide how much prison time — if any — to assign.   Continue reading “Pennsylvania to Become First State to Use “Precrime” Statistics in Criminal Sentencing”

The war against ISIS isn’t going so great, with the self-appointed terror group standing up to a year of U.S. airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.

But that hasn’t kept defense contractors from doing rather well amidst the fighting. Lockheed Martin has received orders for thousands of more Hellfire missiles. AM General is busy supplying Iraq with 160 American-built Humvee vehicles, while General Dynamics is selling the country millions of dollars worth of tank ammunition.   Continue reading “The Company Getting Rich Off the ISIS War”

“When people say, ‘Follow the money,’ they forget that modern culture itself is about dollars, and where the big money goes tells you a great deal about the culture and its legalized crimes against the population. This isn’t hard to understand. It’s like saying, ‘The vampires who sell war do it for profit.’ And lo and behold, war and violence are a centerpiece of our culture. If you don’t understand that, just go to the movies.” (The Underground, Jon Rappoport)

In an effort to fight rising internal extremism, the Israeli government moved to expand a law allowing detention without trial to include Jewish terror suspects. This comes as a girl stabbed by a radical Jew at a Gay Pride parade died from her injuries.

Sixteen-year-old Shira Banki, who was critically injured by an ultra-orthodox Jew along with five others at a peaceful Gay Pride march in Jerusalem on Thursday, succumbed to her injuries in a hospital on Sunday. This coincided with a cabinet meeting called by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who urgently needs to formulate a response to the spiraling violence in the country, just months after flirting with Israel’s right-wing electorate prior to an election in April.   Continue reading “Israel vows to fight Jewish terrorism as 16yo girl stabbed at pride parade dies”

An Ebola vaccine developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada and tested in Guinea has turned out to be almost 100 percent effective, the World Health Organization said Friday, citing the British medical journal The Lancet.

The researchers used the newly-developed Ebola shot in so-called ring vaccination, the method that helped eradicate smallpox in the past. It is based on vaccination of all people who came into contact with an infected person, creating a so-called “protective ring” that prevents the disease from spreading.   Continue reading “New Ebola vaccine field trial shows up to 100% efficiency”
