Hospitals are typically thought of as places where lives are saved, but statistics show they’re actually one of the most dangerous places you could possibly enter.1,2 Each day, more than 40,000 harmful and/or lethal medical errors occur, placing the patient in a worse situation than what they came in with.3
According to a 2013 study,4,5 preventable medical errors kill around 440,000 patients each year — more than 10 times the number of deaths caused by motor vehicle crashes. A 2016 study6 calculated the annual death toll to be around 250,000. Continue reading “25 Most Shocking Medical Mistakes, and How You Can Protect Yourself”

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A gas station owner is lucky to be alive after being shot multiple times in the left arm by a few armed thugs, and he was still able to return fire and survive the awful encounter.
Making coffee for customers seems like a pretty simple and safe thing to do, but store owner Mohammed Kahloon knew better. That’s why Kahloon carries a firearm at all times while he’s working, because he knows that he could need his firearm for self-defense in an instant. It has been over one month since the latest dangerous piece of legislation meant to infringe on Americans’ constitutional rights was introduced, and Congress is now moving forward with the bill that will have serious ramifications for all Americans by blatantly violating the freedoms guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment if it becomes law.
The USA Liberty Act has passed the House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 27-8, and as Congressman Justin Amash noted, all privacy advocates should be concerned about the overwhelming support the bill is receiving from Congress. Hydraulic fracturing is a natural gas extraction method that has become extremely controversial for its environmental impacts. Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand, and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure, which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well. Wastewater produced from this process is highly toxic and filled with a variety of chemicals. Sending a sample of your DNA through the post may seem like a harmless and novel way of tracing your ancestry, and millions of Americans have already done so, but there is a more sinister side to this relatively new enterprise.
If you’re suspected of a crime police can, if they have a warrant, request access to your DNA profile from both the Ancestry and 23andMe websites. The latter has received five requests for customer information from law enforcement, although the company says it didn’t comply with any of these requests. A man identifying as a woman has become the U.K. Methodist Church’s first transgender minister, physically transitioning changing his gender to female after four decades of dressing like one.
Joy Everingham, a 46-year-old chaplain at University of Kent Canterbury and father of two, announced to his congregation that he had fully accepted his identity and would transition to wearing women’s clothing full-time and begin taking cross-gender hormones, according to Telegraph. Everingham first discussed his plan of transitioning to senior church leaders, who gave their full approval, before announcing his plans to his congregation. Everingham, still married and living with his wife Ruth and their two sons and ordained as a Methodist deacon, is the first transgender minister accepted by the Methodist Church in the U.K. Continue reading “First Transgender Minister Appointed In UK Methodist Church”
As the transition towards a blockchain based economy continues, the established financial powers are desperately trying to stay relevant. In an attempt to boost their credibility, analysts at Deutsche Bank are finally admitting that state-run fiat currencies are becoming obsolete. For years, blockchain entrepreneurs and other critics of central banking have been branded either conspiracy theorists or criminals. But recently, those controversial opinions about the inevitable changes coming to the world’s financial system are being echoed by mainstream pundits. In what appears to be a clear case of irony, the president of the American Heart Association, John Warner, suffered what doctors say was a minor heart attack earlier this week after his organization advised Americans earlier this year to stop using butter in their foods and replace it with toxic, artery-clogging vegetable oils instead.
According to a published report on the AHA website, Warner — himself a cardiologist (another irony) and CEO of UT Southwestern University Hospitals in Dallas — is in stable condition after doctors inserted a stent into a blocked artery. That’s rich! Republicans suddenly believe that one percenters are barely struggling to be in the middle class, party officials revealed.
On Thursday, House Republicans issued a fact sheet about their new tax cut plan that referred to Americans earning $450,000 a year as “low- and middle-income” – even though that income level would put those taxpayers in the top 0.5 percent of all individual Americans. 30 million Americans who woke perfectly healthy yesterday morning are now suddenly in need of expensive hypertension treatments after the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology decided to lower the definition of “high blood pressure” to 130/80 from the previous trigger of 140/90. According to Reuters, the change means that nearly 50% of American adults, or roughly 100 million people, now suffer from high blood pressure. Well, if there’s one thing we can say about this Boston Globe op-ed, it’s honest. I don’t mean honest regarding facts or anything, but honest in detailing what gun control advocates really, really want: confiscation. In light of the recent mass shootings in Texas and Las Vegas, the usual characters stepped out in front. The National Rifle Association is evil, we need more background checks, and it’s the Republicans’ fault. The rancor lasted a few weeks, but as in every case, we return to reality: guns are here to stay. Guns are part of American culture. And no new gun control laws are going to get passed. Period. Why? There’s no need. In fact, none of the proposals the anti-Gun Left pushes would stop any future mass shootings. None. Background checks? Stephen Paddock, who committed the brutal shooting in Las Vegas passed all of his background checks, had zero run-ins with the law, and no history of mental illness. Devin Kelley, an Air Force veteran who served a year in jail for domestic violence, should have been barred from owning guns after his conviction. He was court martialed in 2012 for beating his wife and stepson, the latter of which suffered a fractured skull. In 2014, he was given a bad-conduct discharge. How did he get weapons? The Air Force did not forward his criminal record to the FBI to be added into the NICS system. This shooting could have been prevented. Also, it was an NRA member who stopped the carnage from being even more widespread. Stephen Willeford lived near the church where Kelley opened fire and was made aware of the attack by his daughter. He ran barefoot across the street and engaged Kelley with his AR-15 rifle. Continue reading “Boston Globe: It’s Time To Consider Gun Confiscation”
