Anti-War – by Mel Gurtov

The death of six US soldiers in Afghanistan on December 21 at the hands of a Taliban suicide bomber brings to 21 the number of US combat deaths there in 2015. Once again we must confront the question of national purpose in waging war without debate or declaration. Like all other battlefield deaths in the Middle East, the Obama administration rationalizes these latest as being part of “training, advising, and assisting,” not combat. But those are merely code words for direct interventions that Congress has not authorized since 2002, in clear violation of restrictions the War Powers Resolution of 1973 places on presidential power.   Continue reading “Endless War, Undeclared and Undebated”

Three days of near-constant rain sent creeks pouring into St Louis-area homes over the weekend, and area rivers are expected to approach, or even surpass record levels set during 1993’s massive flood as the rain continued into Monday.

“It has never, ever flooded on the inside of the house until the past few days,” said Cottleville, Missouri, resident John Wozniak, whose 40-year-old house sits approximately 100 yards from a creek where a levee burst on Saturday night.   Continue reading “Missouri engulfed by flash floods after three days of rainfall”

Bay Area Rapid Transit police say investigators discovered a dead body inside the U-Haul truck that officers saw being pushed by the man involved in a dramatic gunfight with BART police on Friday morning.

BART police said the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Charles Goetting, was transported to the same hospital where he was in stable condition after surgery.   Continue reading “Dead Body Found in U-Haul, Hours After BART Police Officer Shot, Wounded Near Hayward Station”

Police are trying to find two men who they say stole 43 propane tanks from two industrial sites in the last week, and have alerted their Homeland Security division as a safety measure.

H. R. 4269 – To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.

Read this legislation submitted in the US House of Representatives. This is what a Constitutional Convention will allow our “representatives” to do to ensure their power over their “subjects”. Do you think that the political elite want this legislation passed for the public’s safety?   Continue reading “Merry Christmas: H. R. 4269 – To regulate assault weapons”

The Department of Justice has announced a moratorium on splitting gains made from its civil asset forfeiture program with local law enforcement. Budget cuts of $1.2 billion made keeping the practice “impossible,” the DOJ said, upsetting police groups.

While federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the US Marshals will continue using the legal tool, the“equitable sharing payments” will not return until “a later date should the budget picture improve,” according to the DOJ.   Continue reading “DOJ suspends asset forfeiture profit-sharing with local police, cites budget cuts”

Former New York Times reporter Chris Hedges has previously noted that oppressive regimes fall when their soldiers stop obeying orders and start following the will of the people.

Hedges gave an example from the U.S.  In 2010, Hedges, Daniel Ellsberg and 131 veterans were arrested for holding an anti-war protest in front of the White House.   Continue reading “Police Whisper Into Protesters’ Ear: “Keep On Protesting””

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri residents soon will not be able to use their state driver’s licenses as identification to get into most federal facilities, making it one of at least five states to lose a federal exemption from complying with national proof-of-identity requirements.

A letter from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to Missouri, obtained on Wednesday by The Associated Press, informs the state that its exemption from federal Real ID requirements will come to an end Jan. 10.   Continue reading “Feds won’t accept Missouri driver’s licenses”

The spending bill passed by Congress on Friday repealed the country-of-origin labeling (COOL) regulation that let consumers know where their meat came from.

The decision follows a ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that found the labels discriminate against meat raised and slaughtered outside the United States. The WTO permitted Mexico and Canada to impose more than $1 billion in tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation if the labels were not pulled from packages of beef and pork. The nations are the U.S.’s top agriculture partners. [1]     Continue reading “Congress Decided we Don’t Deserve to Know Where Meat Comes From”

Americans don’t realize how much we get ripped off on practically everything in this country.

That’s why people were rejoicing so hard when big pharma dbag Martin Shkreli was arrested. He bought up the patent for a drug that costs about $13.50 a pill (that people pay about a nickel for in, say, India) and started charging $750 bucks for it, a sum which people who take that drug were forced to pay or die, something he can legally do in this country.   Continue reading “Even Funerals Are a Giant Financial Scam in America”

Social media is still exploding about the first reports describing the assailants in the December 2, 2015 San Bernardino shooting and the actual assailants killed in a shoot-out with police. What’s being discussed is how the two don’t match up and the identity and whereabouts of the mysterious third assailant (1).

The original reports coming out of the scene where 14 people were murdered and 21 injured described three tall, athletically built, white men dressed in military black. This description was given by Sally Abdelmageed who works at the Inland Regional Center.
