Philadelphia is using an obscure law to take property away from innocent citizens. Through civil forfeiture, Philadelphia has been able to sieze propoerty if that property is even tenuously connected to law-breaking.

In one case, the Sourovelise family had a teenage son who sold about $40 worth of drugs outside their house. He was caught and ordered to mandatory rehab. A little while later, the police showed up and evicted the Sourovelises from their house. The police claimed that, under civil forfeiture law, the house was now the property of the city. Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have donated a total of $1 million to a campaign attempting to get Initiative 594 passed in Washington State.

Initiative 594 is a “universal background check” initiative that would require background checks on private gun sales. Gun rights have been crushing federal court cases recently. Just last week a federal judge ordered the Department of Justice to turn over all documents related to the ATF’s Fast & Furious operation, and just yesterday a federal judge ruled that aspects of California’s 10 day waiting period were unconstitutional.

Today, we have yet another victory in Louisiana where a federal judge has ruled that a local Baton Rouge law banning firearms on the property of businesses that serve alcohol, even in the parking lot, is a violation of the Second Amendment.

FORT LEE, Va. (AP) — An enraged soldier barricaded herself in a building at a Virginia Army base, threw objects around the office and then fatally shot herself in the head Monday as law enforcement officials tried to negotiate with her, authorities said.

The soldier, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead after being taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, according to a news release issued by Fort Lee, where the Monday morning shooting took place. DONNA, Texas — Authorities are looking into the kidnappers of a woman, who managed to get away from her captors, north of the Texas border.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m. individuals driving along Farm-to-Market Road 493 spotted a woman waiving for help, said Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Spokesman JP Rodriguez.

HOUSTON, Texas — A 46-year-old man from El Salvador was recently caught smuggling seven ounces of cocaine hidden in tamales. Authorities intercepted the attempted smuggling at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

A statement obtained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), obtained by Breitbart Texas, claimed that the suspect was attempting to traveling to New York at the time of the bust. A Dunedin boy’s lemonade stand is at the center of an ongoing controversy with a neighbor who says the operation is hurting his property value and disrupting his “quiet home and neighborhood.”

Entrepreneurial T.J. Guerrero, 12, opened the lemonade stand in his Dunedin neighborhood about two years ago. After careful market testing, he determined the best location was on the corner of Patricia Avenue and San Salvador Drive, between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m., the Tampa Bay Times reported. MIDLAND, Texas (AP) – Indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he believes taxpayers should have picked up his legal tab but opted to use campaign funds “to keep from having folks grouse about it.”

The possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate told reporters Tuesday in Midland that he had considered it appropriate for state funds to pay his legal fees because a criminal investigation dealt with his official duties as governor.
