‘Police State’ America continues to unfold as the pictures below of a Hartford, Connecticut drug bust show. A full blown paramilitary team showed up after someone called the police about the smell of someone smoking marijuana. Isn’t this just a bit of overkill, responding en masse like this to someone smoking a plant? It looks to me like how they’d be responding to the Boston Marathon bomber. Is this the ‘new America’ Barack Obama promised? In 2002, the late Solomon Burke recorded the album “Don’t Give up on Me.” Featured on that CD was a cut co-authored by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, and Brenda Russell entitled “None of us are Free.” The song was featured on the final episode of House, M.D.’s second season. I caught this about a week ago when one of the networks was doing a House marathon.
Solomon Burke is one of the best, but underrated, soul musicians of the 1960s. While he never had a Top 20 hit, his songs inspired a generation. This particular cut also features the Blind Boys of Alabama on back-up vocals. I particularly like the Hammond B3 organ parts and the fact this song in F minor ends on an F major chord. After a massive search in a remote area of Idaho, police on Saturday located the suspected killer and the 16-year-old girl, Hannah, he allegedly kidnapped. The girl was found safe but the kidnapper was killed, police said.
Sheriff Bill Gore in San Diego County, Calif., said 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio was killed by an FBI agent at 4:22 p.m. Pacific time near a campsite. CHON BURI – A man shot and killed his girlfriend and her mother on Thursday at a car modification shop in Muang district, just 20 days before they were due to be married on Aug 28.

Two years ago Joe Lozito was attacked by a serial killer in the NYC subway and suffered multiple stabbing wounds before taking the man down. According to Lozito, two NYPD police officers were standing within viewing distance and didn’t raise a hand to help him until after the the killer was disarmed. Then they arrested him and claimed credit for the apprehension.
