A delegation of six California lawmakers departed for Central America on Monday for a nine-day trip to discuss the immigration crisis with Central American leaders.

MCALLEN, Texas–A federal judge denied bond for a husband and wife accused of kidnapping an illegal immigrant from Honduras and threatening her family with decapitating her or selling her off to a brothel if they didn’t pay a ransom.

MCALLEN, Texas–A federal judge sentenced a Texas sheriff to five years in prison for taking money from a South Texas drug lord linked to Mexican cartels.

On Thursday morning, U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez delivered harsh words to former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño during his sentencing hearing. Malaysian Airlines MH17 plane was travelling almost the same route as Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s jet shortly before the crash that killed 295, Interfax news agency reports citing sources.

“I can say that Putin’s plane and the Malaysian Boeing intersected at the same point and the same echelon. That was close to Warsaw on 330-m echelon at the height of 10,100 meters. The purpose of the operation was  to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister’s office.

As US lawmakers grapple with ways to slash spending, many were shocked to learn authorities are spending $250 to $1,000 per day to care for each minor apprehended crossing the US border.

More than 57,000 unaccompanied children, mostly from Central America, have been caught entering the country illegally since last October, and President Barack Obama has asked for $3.7 billion in emergency funding to address what he has called an “urgent humanitarian solution.”

A Malaysia Airlines plane carrying was reportedly shot down near the Ukraine-Russia border Thursday, killing all 295 people on board, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior ministry said.

An aide quoted by Interfax said the total number of dead in the crash was more than 300 and includes 23 U.S. citizens.
