NEW YORK (AP) – A man who served nearly 30 years in prison for murder was ordered freed Wednesday after prosecutors concluded he falsely confessed when he was 16.

David McCallum and the late Willie Stuckey’s convictions were thrown out Wednesday, at Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson’s request. Thompson said their convictions hinged on untrue confessions, made by teenagers, rife with inaccuracies and peppered with details seemingly supplied by police.   Continue reading “2 men cleared in 1985 NYC kidnapping, killing”

Amid outrage from religious groups, Mayor Annise Parker and City Attorney David Feldman on Wednesday appeared to back off a subpoena request for the sermons of certain ministers opposed to the city’s equal rights ordinance, with Parker calling it overly broad.

The subpoenas, handed down to five pastors and religious leaders last month, came to light this weekwhen attorneys for the group of pastors filed a motion to quash the request. Though Feldman stood behind the subpoena in an interview  Tuesday, he and Parker  said during the Mayor’s weekly press conference Wednesday that the wording was problematic.   Continue reading “Mayor, city attorney distance themselves from sermon subpoenas”

Gen. KellyWestern Journalism – by Norvell Rose

Without a doubt, a highly decorated, four-star Marine Corps General has courage and conviction. But this particular Marine — Gen. John Kelly, head of the U.S. Southern Command — has demonstrated real guts by coming right out and saying something that his own Commander-in-Chief might not like to hear.

While President Obama calls for more health screenings at a handful of U.S. airports, Gen. Kelly argues that the real threat of a domestic Ebola outbreak could come sweeping across the southern border…which has nothing to do with air travel into the United States.   Continue reading “This Top Marine General Just Courageously Broke Rank To Deliver A Crushing Blow To Obama”

A Canadian-made experimental vaccine against Ebola is about to begin human trials and holds our best hope for immunizing those at risk. The big question, however, is whether or not it be ready in time to stop the spread of this deadly disease.

At this point the vaccine, dubbed VSV-EBOV,  has proven to be 100% effective in primates, both in preventing sickness and increasing survival rates in infected individuals when given promptly after diagnosis.   Continue reading “Human trials set to begin for Ebola vaccine: What does that mean?”

Education Expert: Parents, Take Children Back From Gov’t ControlThe New American – by Dave Bohon

An education expert who heads up a popular online K-12 school is advising parents that they must be vigilant against government intrusion if they want to maintain control over their children’s schooling.

Alan Scholl and his wife, Doreen, have successfully homeschooled seven children over the past 29 years. In addition to that accomplishment, Scholl — sensing the need for a learning system that would empower parents to exit the public school bureaucracy and provide his and Doreen’s children with a solid classical education founded on both Judeo-Christian and Americanist principles — three years ago launched FreedomProject Education (FPE), a nationwide online K-12 school that has exploded from 22 students in 2011 to over 600 at the beginning of the 2014 school year.   Continue reading “Education Expert: Parents, Take Children Back From Gov’t Control”

Credit cardYahoo Finance – by Ann Carrns

In the coming year, banks in the United States are likely to replace debit or credit cards with versions that have tiny computer chips embedded in them, a move aimed at making shopping in stores more secure.

Bank of America, for instance, has just announced that, beginning this month, all new bank customers will be issued debit cards with chip technology, and that existing cards will be upgraded as they expire. The cards work by creating a unique code for each transaction. While the change will not necessarily stop data breaches from occurring, security experts say, the chip technology prevents criminals from using stolen information to create counterfeit cards. Most credit and debit cards in the United States rely on older “€œmagnetic strip” technology, which is vulnerable to hacking.   Continue reading “Banks in U.S. Moving to Chip-Based Debit and Credit Cards”

Gay Pride FlagIsrael National News – by Ari Yashar, Feb. 26, 2014

A new poll released Wednesday shows that a majority of Americans support ‘gay marriage.’ The group with the largest percentage expressing support was practicing Jewish Americans, 83% of whom came out in favor, despite homosexuality being expressly forbidden by Judaism.

The survey, which polled 4,500 Americans, was conducted by the non-partisan Public Religion Research Institute. It found that 53% of Americans support gay marriage, reports AFP. That figure indicates a significant rise from ten years prior; in 2003, American public support for same-sex marriage was at 32%.   Continue reading “83% of American Jews Support ‘Gay Marriage’”

One test per year not related to a specific illness under Medicare? So much for preventive medicine.

In recent weeks we have been telling you about a new FDA proposal to increase its control over low-cost laboratory-developed tests—including locally performed custom diagnostics and tests for rare conditions. Tests like these are the future of medicine. People will soon be able to test for and spot cancers long before they manifest themselves using current methods. Testing can already help prevent diabetes, heart and blood vessel illness, prostate cancer, and other diseases.   Continue reading “Government Puts Doctors in Stranglehold over Medical Testing and Diagnostics”

Cancer pioneer Stanislaw Burzynski has just won the first round of a new and particularly underhanded attack from the TMB.

We have been telling you about Dr. Burzynski’s lifesaving antineoplaston treatment, and the persecution he has received at the hand of the Texas Medical Board. This time the TMB filed a 200-page complaint against him, which focused on alleged “FDA violations”—i.e., FDA warning letters about some minor recordkeeping deficiencies in his recently approved phase 2 clinical trials and some promotional claims for the antineoplastons. The TMB claimed that these technical violations of the federal statute were de facto violations of the state medical practice law.   Continue reading “Texas Medical Board as Out of Control as Ever”
