ATLANTA (AP) — Police officers who arrived at the wrong Atlanta home after a report of suspicious activity shot the man who lives there, killed his dog and “likely” shot a fellow officer, leaving him seriously wounded, authorities said Tuesday.

The bloody misunderstanding began Monday night when DeKalb County police received a report of a possible burglary at a one-story residence near an intersection in southeast Atlanta. Lacking an exact address, the officers were sent in the dark to a neighborhood where many of the single-story homes look similar.   Continue reading “Investigators: Georgia officer likely shot by other officers”

Poor people, face a far greater risk of being fined, arrested, and even incarcerated for minor offenses than other Americans. A broken taillight, an unpaid parking ticket, a minor drug offense, sitting on a sidewalk, or sleeping in a park can all result in jail time. In this report, we seek to understand the multi-faceted, growing phenomenon of the “criminalization of poverty.”   Continue reading “The Poor Get Prison: The Alarming Spread of the Criminalization of Poverty”

The Last Bastille – by Kyle Reardon

Individual cognitive traits possess a high degree of variety amongst humans. Institutions, such as organized religion and corporate media, take advantage of the predilection some folks have for immersing themselves in speculative fantasy; consider the popularity of television shows like Jeremiah, Jericho, and even The Walking Dead franchise. The problem here, though, is that hypothetical lifeboat scenarios encourage people to reorient their entire lives around waiting (or “preparing”) for their calamity to occur, usually at the expense of everything and everyone else in their lives.   Continue reading “Modeling Threats & Analyzing Risk: A Rebuttal Against “Doom Porn””

The Organic Prepper

Years ago, I was reading the book Surviving the Apocalypse in the Suburbs. (Great book that I highly recommend!) The premise of the book is that our future economic woes will be based on the scarcity of oil.

The author, Wendy Brown, makes an excellent case regarding our dependency on oil, but the thing that really stood out in my mind was how she had changed her family’s diet well in advance of this economic crisis. She focused her efforts on local food for self-reliance in the long run.   Continue reading “Why Preppers Need to Focus on Local Food for Self-Reliance”

When the video begins, 41-year-old Gilbert Flores is seen running shirtless in the front yard of a house. Moments after he appears to put his hands up, two shots can be heard. The main railway in Budapest got closed for an “undetermined time” for migrants Tuesday after hundreds of them attempted to board a train to Vienna, the latest event in the spiraling migrant crisis that’s engulfing Europe.

Hundreds of refugees – most of them from conflict areas like Syria – are now waiting at the station, with the entrance blocked by police, and are demonstrating, urging the authorities to let them in, shouting “Germany, Germany.”   Continue reading “Hungary bans refugees from main railway station as hundreds attempt to ride Vienna train”

BERLIN (AP) — The German economy has room to accommodate refugees, the labor minister said Tuesday, but the government will need to spend billions of extra euros (dollars) to cover language courses, benefits and their integration into the labor market.

Labor Minister Andrea Nahles’ comments came after official data underlined the strength of Europe’s biggest economy, showing the national unemployment rate at 6.4 percent in August. That compares with higher jobless rates in many other European countries, topping 20 percent in Greece and Spain.   Continue reading “Germany: up to $3.7B needed next year to integrate refugees”

At least 300 high-ranking sheriffs and police from agencies large and small – from New York and Maine to Orange County and Oakland, California – have traveled to Israel for privately funded seminars in what is described as counterterrorism techniques.

Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer called Israel “the Harvard of antiterrorism” after taking part in a 2005 trip sponsored by the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). Capt. Brad Virgoe of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in California called the 2013 session he took part in an “amazing experience,” recalling visits to checkpoints in Eilat at the Israeli-Egyptian border and in the West Bank near Bethlehem.   Continue reading “DHS investors are sending police to train in Israel”

CARROLL TOWNSHIP – Susquehanna Township Police Sgt. Ronald Reinhart Jr. and his wife kept to themselves, neighbors said.

So much so, neighbors of several years didn’t even know their names. They just knew the couple had “a lot of dogs.”

Still, the unfamiliarity didn’t soften the blow of finding out Reinhart, 41, took his life during a standoff with police, who tried to serve him with an arrest warrant on Monday afternoon.   Continue reading “Neighbors shocked Susquehanna Twp. officer killed himself during standoff”

Here is a challenge for you. Reconcile the following:

In 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified, including the Fourth Amendment, guaranteeing “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures.”

In 2015, a 21-year-old woman named Charnesia Corley says she underwent a public body-cavity search for drugs at a gas station in Texas.   Continue reading “Corley endured an assault on her, the Fourth Amendment”

As the stock market burns today an oft-predicted day of reckoning seems to be at hand. Perhaps you are ready for this type of catastrophe or perhaps it is taking you completely by surprise. If the present economy does collapse, which it very well can, it will likely set off a chain reaction of events that will lead into a Greater Depression.

Having studied the first Great Depression I have found the most common hardship experienced by that era was that of hunger. Because of this I am proposing a form of “Food Insurance” that may help you weather the coming storms.   Continue reading “Food Insurance”

While military direct intervention by US, Turkish, and Gulf forces over Syrian soil escalates with every passing day, even as Islamic State forces capture increasingly more sovereign territory, in the central part of the country, the Nusra Front dominant in the northwestern region province of Idlib and the official “rebel” forces in close proximity to Damascus, the biggest question on everyone’s lips has been one: would Putin abandon his protege, Syria’s president Assad, to western “liberators” in the process ceding control over Syrian territory which for years had been a Russian national interest as it prevented the passage of regional pipelines from Qatar and Saudi Arabia into Europe, in the process eliminating Gazprom’s – and Russia’s – influence over the continent.   Continue reading “Russian Military Forces Arrive In Syria, Set Forward Operating Base Near Damascus”

Nicotine is a potent parasympathomimetic alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae) and is considered a stimulant drug. Nicotine can be toxic to humans and to insects/parasites. Nicotine is found in the leaves of Nicotiana tabacum, the tobacco plant.

At one time the United States Military provided cigarettes in rations that were issued to members of the military. Typically three non-filtered cigarettes were provided, but they were not just for smoking. Some of you may remember “Smoke Em If You Got Em, Bum Em If Ya Don’t”.   Continue reading “5 Survival Uses for Tobacco”

Freedom Outpost – by Tim Brown

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) not only got his nickname “Songbird” for alleged treasonous activity while in Vietnam (though he has been hailed by many as a hero), but has taken completely unconstitutional stand and has engaged in treasonous activities in recent years with America’s Islamic enemies, even going so far as to say he helped to fund and arm the now infamous Islamic State. Now, a grassroots movement has formed and will descend on Arizona this week to demand the Arizona senator be held accountable for his actions.

The launch date for Operation Detain McCain will begin on September 1. Click here to read the full itinerary.   Continue reading “Grassroots Movement to Descend on Arizona This Week in Operation Detain McCain”
