A man armed with a hammer shouted “this is for Syria” before attacking police officers on Tuesday outside France’s Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the interior minister said.

The assailant wounded one officer before he was shot and wounded by other officers. The Paris prosecutor’s office swiftly began a counter-terrorism investigation.   Continue reading “Notre Dame attacker shouted ‘this is for Syria’ before being shot”

The guns had just gone silent in the Arab-Israeli war of 1967 when U.S. President Lyndon Johnson jumped in to play the role of peacemaker. Just 11 days after the Six-Day War, Johnson went to the State Department and laid out a plan.

“Our country is committed to a peace that is based on five principles,” Johnson told a hall packed with American diplomats.

His principles were broad. They included “justice for the refugees,” “limits on the wasteful and destructive arms race” and “political independence and territorial integrity for all.”  Continue reading “50 Years On, U.S. Presidents Still Seek Elusive Peace To A 6-Day War”

There has been a lot of media coverage mostly written by Israelis or American Jews regarding Israel’s “victory” fifty years ago during the so-called Six Days War directed against its Arab neighbors but I have yet to see an account that mentions the fate of the U.S.S. Liberty. Nevertheless, the Liberty is not forgotten. This Thursday at noon at Arlington National Cemetery there will be a small gathering for the annual coming together with the survivors and friends of the most decorated ship in the history of the U.S. Navy, a victim of a particularly brutal and unprovoked attack by Israel that has been covered up for half a century by the powers that be in Washington. The moving service will include reminiscences by surviving crew members plus the ringing of a ship’s bell for each one of the thirty-four American sailors, Marines and civilians that were killed in the deliberate Israeli air and sea onslaught that sought to sink the intelligence gathering ship and kill all its crew. Present will be a number of veterans like myself and other Americans who are committed to ensuring that the story of the Liberty will not die in hopes that someday the United States government will have the courage to acknowledge what actually happened on that fateful day. Theunis Wessels, of Alberta, was cutting the grass in his backyard with the tornado in the background when his wife, Cecilia, decided to take a picture of the scene to send to her parents in South Africa, the Canadian Press reported.   Continue reading “Man Who Mowed Lawn During Tornado: ‘I Was Keeping an Eye on It’”

– It was a movement that started in the South, and now, it is in Arizona.

A group of black leaders, including those with the NAACP, wants to start removing Confederate markers from public land in the state.

While Arizona does not have a deep Civil War history, when compared with some other states, there is a history, with the most notable being a battle that was fought near Picacho Peak, in 1862.   Continue reading “Group calls for removal of Confederate monuments in Arizona”

Dubbed Fireball, the malware was found by researchers at Check Point Security. The team said its purpose is to hijack web traffic to generate fraudulent ad revenue. It also includes remote control features for downloading more malware in the future.   Continue reading “Malware infecting 250 million devices could be a ‘catastrophe’”

It’s not just the FBI that can’t seem to turn in its privacy-related paperwork on time. The FBI has pushed forward with its biometric database rollout — despite the database being inaccurate, heavily-populated with non-criminals, and without the statutorily-required Privacy Impact Assessment that’s supposed to accompany it. As of 2014, it hadn’t produced this PIA, one it had promised in 2012. And one that applied to a system that had been in the works since 2008.   Continue reading “DEA Deploying Powerful Spyware Without Required Privacy Impact Assessments”

SHTF Plan – by Mac Slavo

People who support gun control often argue that it would be disastrous if everyone was walking around with a gun at all times. They fear that it would make firearm accidents more likely, and in the event that a robber or a mass shooter is on the loose, there would be a chaotic hail of gunfire from all directions.

It’s a silly argument to make, considering that even in states where there are loose gun laws, and where it is easy to obtain a concealed carry permit, only a minority of citizens carry guns at all times. But for the sake of argument, what would happen if everyone was armed in the vicinity of a violent criminal?   Continue reading “This Thug Tries To Rob A Store Where Every Customer Is Armed”
