Across Michigan, police departments have enlisted civilians to work alongside licensed officers to patrol communities and even assist real cops with arrests. Thousands of migrants from Central America are crossing Mexico toward the United States in a caravan have resumed their long journey, walking about 12 hours to their next destination.

Israeli warplanes have carried out new airstrikes against the besieged Gaza Strip, bombarding the west and south of the enclave.
Israeli media said the fighter jets hit eight targets belonging to the Hamas resistance movement near the towns of Khan Younis and Rafah, besides other targets, early on Thursday morning. Americans over 50 are worse than younger people at telling facts from opinions, according to a new study by Pew Research Center.
Given 10 statements, five each of fact and opinion, younger Americans correctly identified both the facts and the opinions at higher rates than older Americans did. Forty-four percent of younger people identified all five opinions as opinions, while only 26 percent of older people did. And 18-to-29-year-olds performed more than twice as well as the 65+ set. President Trump signed a sweeping bipartisan bill into law on Wednesday aimed at making medical treatment for opioid addiction more widely available while also cracking down on illicit drugs being sent through the mail.

Growing thousands a day, well fed, well watered and undoubtedly not far away from a gun. What is troubling is that the faces are changing daily; we have gone from faces of families to faces of young men, obviously looking for trouble. I’m having a hell of a time reconciling how Trump hasn’t acted on all of this. As far as I know, not one soldier has been put on the border, at least to show some kind of show of force, not one over-flight of our trillion dollar Air Force on or around the border whatsoever. NEW ORLEANS — An oil spill that has been quietly leaking millions of barrels into the Gulf of Mexico has gone unplugged for so long that it now verges on becoming one of the worst offshore disasters in U.S. history.
Between 300 and 700 barrels of oil per day have been spewing from a site 12 miles off the Louisiana coast since 2004, when an oil-production platform owned by Taylor Energy sank in a mudslide triggered by Hurricane Ivan. Many of the wells have not been capped, and federal officials estimate that the spill could continue through this century. With no fix in sight, the Taylor offshore spill is threatening to overtake BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster as the largest ever.

Authorities have intercepted suspicious devices intended for former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and the Florida office of Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was evacuated Wednesday after a suspicious package was mailed there.
Also, CNN’s New York bureau in the Time Warner Center was evacuated after a package with an explosive device, addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, was discovered, city and local law enforcement officials said. Police are investigating a suspicious package sent to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Sunrise, Florida.
Earlier Wednesday, suspicious packages were sent to the homes of the Clintons and Obamas and CNN’s headquarters. Democratic donor George Soros had a similar package sent to him this week. The packages sent to former President Barack Obama and the Clintons were intercepted by the Secret Service during routine mail screening procedures. The packages were identified to be potential explosive devices, according to a Secret Service statement. Update VI: NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a Wednesday press conference that the pipe bomb sent to CNN’s New York office was “clearly an act of terror.”
NYPD commissioner James O’Neill said police found an envelope of white powder along with the bomb at the Time Warner building. “We’ve seen this before. We’ve seen worse.
