The traces of a black eye are still visible on Abdel Qader Abu Srour’s face as he takes his medication with his morning coffee.

The father of two is tired. After four days in custody, he has just been released from an Israeli prison. “They kept me in solitary confinement for the first two days in a freezing cell with no blankets, nothing hot to drink, and no medical care,” he tells Middle East Eye.  Continue reading “By force or forgery: How settlers claim Palestinian homes”

WASHINGTON —  Support for Israel in the American public is at its lowest point in a decade, according new Gallup poll released Wednesday, with a whopping decline among self-identified Republicans who said they sympathized more with Israelis than Palestinians.

Whereas 65 percent of Americans said they were “more sympathetic” to Israel over the Palestinians in 2018, 59% said the same in 2019, marking a six point drop. That decline is the biggest over a one-year period in the history of the poll, which began in 2001. The number of Americans who said they sympathized more with the Palestinians, however, went unchanged over the last year, remaining at 21 percent.   Continue reading “New poll: Americans’ support for Israel falls to lowest point in a decade”

Two decades ago, the US intelligence community worked closely with Silicon Valley in an effort to track citizens in cyberspace. And Google is at the heart of that origin story. Some of the research that led to Google’s ambitious creation was funded and coordinated by a research group established by the intelligence community to find ways to track individuals and groups online.   Continue reading “Flashback: Google’s true origin partly lies in CIA and NSA research grants for mass surveillance”

For 20 years, Harris Poll has been measuring the reputations of the most high-profile American companies. This year, for the first time, people mentioned the U.S. government as a “company” that they think about — and they hate it.

Why it matters: The fact that people would bring it up unprompted — and then give it the lowest score of the 100 companies on the list — suggests that Americans aren’t just unimpressed with their government. They think it’s a toxic waste dump.

Achille, OK — A video of the Achille police department raiding the home of an innocent family, threatening a husband and wife, and ripping a baby from a mother’s arms was apparently so disturbing that the entire department has been suspended. The actions of the officers may now lead to their termination, according to Achille mayor, David Northcutt.

“There were several issues which some felt arose in which the warrant was delivered, as well as other actions that occurred at the residence,” said Northcutt. Continue reading “Video of Raid on Innocent Family So Disturbing, Entire Police Dept Suspended”
