Ten people on board a cruise ship docked in Japan have tested positive for novel coronavirus, according to Japanese media reports.

A passenger on the Diamond Princess, operated by Carnival Corp.’s Princess Cruises, tested positive for the virus after leaving the ship in Hong Kong on Jan. 25. That prompted officials in Japan, where the ship had later arrived, to delay the Diamond Princess. A team of quarantine officials and medical staff boarded the ship and began medical checks of everyone on board, the Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed health ministry official.  Continue reading “10 Passengers on Cruise Ship in Japan Test Positive for Coronavirus; China Travelers Banned, Cruises Canceled”

MIAMI (AP) — Two men charged with drug trafficking could have done a better job hiding their wares than using a package labeled “Bag Full of Drugs,” Florida authorities said.

Ian Simmons and Joshua Reinhardt, both 34, were pulled over in Santa Rosa County on Saturday after a trooper clocked them going 95 mph on Interstate 10 on the state’s Panhandle, according to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest report. The Great Recession

Having predicted last year that a recession would begin in the summer of 2019 and that it would likely start with a major repo crisis, I am now proven wrong by 2019’s fourth-quarter GDP. If the repo crisis that started in the final week of summer had actually been the start of a recession, we would have seen fourth-quarter GDP go negative. Instead, it came in at 2.1% growth.  Continue reading “GDP is In, and Recession is Out … or is it?”

Fresno, CA — All too often, families in need of medical help for their family members in a crisis will call 911 and receive anything but help. All too often, police—who have zero training in dealing with the mentally or physically ill—will show up to these medical calls for help and abuse, assault, arrest, and sometimes even kill those in need of help. A California woman learned this the hard way over the weekend when she called for an ambulance, got police instead, and watched her child endure a horrifying fate at the hands of Fresno’s finest. WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military has deployed a new addition to its nuclear arsenal — a long-range missile armed with a nuclear warhead of reduced destructive power. The so-called low-yield missile joins other, more powerful weapons aboard stealthy submarines prowling the oceans.

The debut deployment aboard long-range submarines, known as boomers, is a landmark in U.S. nuclear weapons policy. It is the first major addition to the strategic nuclear arsenal in recent decades and is a departure from the Obama administration’s policy of lessening dependence on nuclear weapons in pursuit of a nuclear-free world.  Continue reading “US adds ‘low yield’ nuclear weapon to its submarine arsenal”

Virginia lawmakers on Monday rejected a gun control bill proposed by Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, as the state continues to become the battleground in the nation’s gun debate.

Speaking at Joe Biden campaign rally over the weekend, former secretary of state and supposed lifelong hunter and gun owner John Kerry asserted that no one should use an “AR-16 with a long clip” to hunt.

“You heard from Joe about the things he did with the NRA,” Kerry said to the crowd of Biden supporters. “That took courage. Delaware is a tough state. I’m a hunter. I’m a gun owner. Been that all my life,” he continued. “But I got news for you, there’s not a veteran here who would take an AR-16 with a long clip to go out and shoot a deer or shoot anything. There is no business — Joe led the fight to get those things off the street.” Continue reading “John Kerry, self-proclaimed lifelong gun owner: No one should use an ‘AR-16 with a long clip’ to hunt”
