A nearly three-week protest in Ottawa over mandated Covid-19 precautions in Canada may be approaching its end as police tell demonstrators to either leave immediately or face legal consequences.
The Ottawa Police Service began erecting barriers and fencing throughout the capital city’s downtown core Thursday in an effort to clear the area of demonstrators, according to a series of tweets from Interim Chief Steve Bell. On Friday 2/11/22, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit ruled against the Children’s Health Defense in its challenge of the FCC’s “Over The Air Reception Devices” (OTARD) rule amendment.
The OTARD rule amendment allows the installation of base station antennas on homes without application, permit or notice and while preempting all state and local regulations. This rule amendment aims to facilitate a massive deployment of 5G networks (mainly broadband – but also voice services). On Wednesday, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the federal body was considering easing its guidance on mask wearing, as Omicron cases wane in the U.S. and the government starts to plan for “the path ahead.”
“Omicron cases are declining, and we are all cautiously optimistic about the trajectory we are on. Things are moving in the right direction, but we want to remain vigilant to do all we can so that this trajectory continues,” CDC director Rochelle Walensky said. The United States has offered Ukraine a loan of $1 billion to help stabilize its economy, and it intends to make an additional $3 billion available through the Export-Import Bank.
President Volodymyr Zelensky previously said Ukraine needed $4 billion to $5 billion to help stabilize the country’s economy. The money from the U.S. will be used to support Ukraine’s economic agenda and financial projects amid concerns about a Russian invasion.
