As politicians and anti-gun rights activists continuously chant, “we don’t want to take your guns,” behind the scenes — in just months — politicians have been working overtime to limit and remove your right to bear arms. These laws all started as a reaction to the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida last year and with every shooting since, they have sped up. And, like most politicians always do, they are not letting these tragedies go to waste. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody stood her ground on Monday when asked whether in the wake of the weekend’s mass murders she’d reconsidered her opposition to a constitutional amendment banning “assault weapons” that could appear before voters on the 2020 ballot.

New York City police officers made headlines last month when videos hit social media showing people repeatedly dumping water on cops in the streets and chucking a bucket at an officer’s head — and police either didn’t react or simply trudged off.

Police in Boston Tuesday night reportedly destroyed three wheelchairs belonging to homeless city residents in a garbage truck compactor as part of a crackdown targeting the city’s transient population.

“Operation Clean Sweep” began August 2 after a county corrections officer was allegedly struck during a fight involving a number of people on “Methadone Mile,” a stretch of the city near Massachusetts Ave. and Melnea Cass Boulevard where there are a number of clinics and treatment centers. The following is my recent argument with yet one more market analyst who can’t see straight, even when his article overall was admitting it was time to bail out of stocks. Correcting the market mantras that dominate the bullheaded is partly why I am here.

Cook County’s top public defense attorney called for the immediate removal of a new Chicago Police Department website that broadcasts adult gun-related criminal charges, citing what she described as inaccurate data and a “blatant intrusion” of defendants’ privacy.

“This is another example of police using a list of people who are presumed innocent as a red herring to distract from the real issue of the day: the CPD’s failure to arrest the individuals who are shooters and who continue to wreak havoc in Chicago,” county public defender Amy Campanelli said in a statement on Wednesday.

The US government has to come up with very very strong legislation for social media, and it has to do that very soon. Because if it doesn’t, it risks those same social media inciting a civil war (that’s no hyperbole, that is real) on American soil.

And beyond as well, but as Donald Trump said about European efforts to curtail Twitter, Facebook et al’s activities, they’re American companies and hence America’s responsibility. Well, cool, but that means you have to do your job, and you ain’t doing it. Those EU efforts by the way were all about financial issues, tax paying etc., not inciting civil wars or being undemocratic. Hey, SCOTUS says it’s OK so it must be OK. Via Greg Doucette comes another WTF decision[PDF] — one that gives North Carolina cops the green light to engage in retaliatory arrests over protected speech.

It’s not like there’s no case law to work with. The apprehension of migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border between ports of entry fell by more than 24 percent from June to July. Despite the decrease from the high point in May, apprehension numbers are still up from July 2018 by 130 percent.

U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 71,999 migrants in July. This is down from 94,908 in June — a decrease of 24.1 percent. The armed man who walked into a Missouri Walmart store dressed in body armor and fatigues and was detained at gunpoint by an off-duty firefighter is “lucky he’s alive still” considering the situation he created, a police official said.
