Settlements in US currency could be dropped by Russia in favor of the euro if the EU takes a stand against the latest US sanctions on Moscow, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“As we see, restrictions imposed by the American partners are of an extraterritorial nature. The possibility of switching from the US dollar to the euro in settlements depends on Europe’s stance toward Washington’s position,” said Siluanov, who is also Russia’s first deputy prime minister. BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts judge who engaged in sexual acts with a social worker in his courthouse chambers will be suspended indefinitely, the state’s highest court ruled Thursday, and may face removal from the bench.
The Supreme Judicial Court said Judge Thomas Estes’ “grave, willful and repeated wrongdoing” has damaged the public’s faith in the judicial system. “The sanction we impose is not severe because we seek to punish the judge severely, but because … we seriously question whether he can command the respect and authority essential to the performance of his judicial function,” the judges wrote. SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Sinopec, Asia’s largest refiner, will boost U.S. crude oil imports to an all-time high as China tries to reduce its trade deficit with the United States, two sources with knowledge of the matter said on Wednesday.

President Trump on Thursday cancelled the highly anticipated summit with North Korea that was set for next month, calling the talks “inappropriate” following the “hostility” displayed in the latest comments from dictator Kim Jong Un.
The move to pull out of the summit, slated to take place in Singapore on June 12, came after threats from Kim to call off the talks. The mysterious death of a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist — whose body was found along the banks of a river weeks after he disappeared — has been ruled a suicide by drowning, officials said.
There was evidence Timothy Cunningham, 35, had used marijuana but that didn’t contribute to his death, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said, according to The Associated Press. LAKE WORTH, Fla. — Residents of a Florida city who received alerts about a power outage were also warned to look out for zombies. That’s right — zombies.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Lake Worth residents received the message during a power outage Sunday.

The US has revoked the Chinese navy’s invitation to participate in the RIMPAC 2018 naval drills, citing Beijing’s militarization of disputed islands in the South China Sea. The two countries vie for influence in the region.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is an old-school law and order man. He wants asset forfeiture returned to its former glory — no longer questioned by all and sundry for its ability to enrich law enforcement agencies without making much of a dent in criminal activity. He wants drug sellers jailed for as long as possible, suggesting the last time he read a policy paper was sometime during the mid-1980s. The ordeal began at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday when the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with federal agents to conduct a raid on a house where they claimed a suspect in a murder case was staying. However, they actually terrorized an innocent family in a careless raid that should never have happened.
