Florida Department of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced on Monday that hackers may have obtained the names of concealed weapon licensees in a data breach that “appears to have originated from overseas” (must be those Russians again!).
The breach may have revealed the social security numbers of 469 customers, and another 16,190 may have had their names but “no other individually identifying information” was compromised. Continue reading “Names of More than 16,000 Concealed Weapons Permit Holders in Florida Exposed In Hack”

Medical marijuana legalization is causing patients to ditch their prescription pills for pot, a trend researchers say could save Medicaid more than $1 billion if legalization is implemented federally.
A recent study published in Health Affairs shows marijuana legalization is sparking a decline in prescription medications under Medicaid. The research, which analyzed Medicaid data in states with medical marijuana programs, found rates of prescriptions being filled under Medicaid for opioid painkillers dropped by 11 percent, and other addictive medications followed similar patterns, reports The Colorado Statesman. As I’ve been telling you for years, it’s easy to keep the public on your side if you regularly tout medical “breakthroughs” in the press. The latest innovation. The promise of a cure around the corner. The maybe-could-be discovery that will change the course of disease treatment forever.
In this case, a start-up called Tilos has one of those, for cancer. They say it’s an antibody their researchers came across while looking for a cure for MS. They stumbled on to it by accident. Aha. Continue reading “Would the government let Jesus cure cancer?”

Tuesday’s Department of Justice budget proposal asks Congress for $1.8 million to “meet litigation, acquisition, and appraisal demands during the construction along the border between Mexico and the United States.”
The money will be used to devote 20 new staff members, including 12 attorneys, to the Environmental and Natural Resources Division’s Land Acquisition Section (LAS). This small section of the DOJ handles litigation that arises when the federal government uses its “eminent domain” power to seize land for public projects. It is now possible to take 3D pictures of the inside of a room or building — from the outside — with Wi-Fi.

“You could probably use a drone to map out the inside of an entire building in 20 to 30 seconds,” Philipp Holl, an undergraduate at the Technical University of Munich, told Business Insider. Continue reading “How Snoopers Can Photograph The Inside Of Your Home … With Your Own Wi-Fi”
