CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The driver charged with killing a woman at a white nationalist rally in Virginia was previously accused of beating his mother and threatening her with a knife, according to police records.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fallout from President Donald Trump’s reaction to violent, racial clashes in Virginia over the weekend continued in the business community with another resignation from a federal panel of executives that was created to advise him.

Following the departure of chief executives for Merck, Under Armour and Intel, the president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing stepped down Tuesday. Armed groups of private citizens have increasingly been taking on a security function at public events where the possibility of violent protest exists, including the past weekend at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va.

“We’ve seen violent clashes in the past between the left and the right, that’s nothing new,” says Daryl Johnson, who spent years as a Department of Homeland Security analyst. The new wrinkle, he says, is “guys walking around in military garb with guns. McALLEN, Texas (CN) – Federal agents arrested a South Texas police sergeant on charges he helped transport cocaine because he needed money for his constable election campaign, according to an indictment unsealed Monday.

Charneshia Corley, 23, was pulled over for jumping a red light on June 21, 2015, when officers say they smelled marijuana in her car.

There then followed a 15-minute search during which she says a female officer told her to spread her legs so she could inspect it with a flashlight.

Undeterred by the violence over the planned removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville, Virginia, municipal leaders in cities across the United States said they would step up efforts to pull such monuments from public spaces.

Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control officials will begin canvassing West Covina residences early next month to check compliance with rabies vaccinations and dog licensing requirements.

The campaign is one of several measures aimed at increasing revenue for the city this year. Pet owners are required to pay licensing fees of $60 per dog to the city, according to a city statement. Fees for spayed or neutered dogs are $22 or $10 for dogs belonging to senior citizens.
