NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo renewed his call for national gun control legislation on Saturday as he delivered a eulogy for the top state attorney who was fatally wounded by a stray bullet in Brooklyn earlier this month.

Astronomers are gearing up to spot a rare phenomenon, as a lunar eclipse coincides with a so-called “supermoon”.

A supermoon occurs when the Moon is in the closest part of its orbit to Earth, meaning it appears larger in the sky.

After 20 years of being used in Europe, the US approved the use of EMV chip technology in debt and credit cards. This will begin to be applied on Thursday, and it is expected to reduce fraud significantly. EMV stands for Europay,MasterCard, and Visa, the main three companies that created this standard.

Stephanie Erickson, head of authentication and product integration for Visa, told this to NBC News: “In countries that have moved to chip technology, two years after the liability shift date, they see their counterfeit go down 60, 70 percent or more.”

The Pentagon said Tuesday that it was reviewing what it called an “unsafe” intercept of an Air Force reconnaissance plane by at least one Chinese jet over the Yellow Sea last week.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said that the American RC-135 was intercepted by a Chinese fighter approximately 80 miles east of northeastern China’s Shandong Peninsula on Sept. 15. A veteran Florida sheriff’s deputy and a suspect have died after a shooting and subsequent standoff at a motel after a procedural step in a domestic violence investigation went awry, police said.

Deputy Bill Myers went to meet 33-year-old suspect Joel Dixon Smith around 8:20 p.m. near the Cotton & Gates law firm in the panhandle town, Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley said at an afternoon news conference.
