NEW YORK (AP) — Five people were shot Tuesday morning at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York, law enforcement sources said.
Fire personnel responding to reports of smoke at the 36th Street station in the Sunset Park neighborhood found multiple people shot and undetonated devices, a New York City Fire Department spokesperson said. The White House released a fact sheet early Monday indicating that President Joe Biden intends to announce that his Department of Justice (DOJ) is prepared to label gun parts kits as “firearms” in an effort to ban so-called “ghost guns.”
Democrats use the phrase “ghost guns” to describe firearms that Americans can build themselves. The firearms are often built from an 80 percent receiver in the case of a rifle, or 80 percent frame, in the case of a pistol. Building such guns has long been an American hobby. The new rules from Biden’s DOJ refer to the 80 percent parts kits as “buy, build, shoot” kits and label the kits themselves as firearms. For the second time in two years, the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday voted to pass legislation that would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level.
The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (or MORE) Act, which was authored by Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., passed in a 220-204 vote, with all but two Democrats (Reps. Chris Pappas of New Hampshire and Henry Cuellar of Texas) voting in support of the measure and all but three Republicans (Reps. Matt Gaetz and Brian Mast of Florida, and Tom McClintock of California) voting against it. Today, the Department of Justice announced it will launch five cross-jurisdictional firearms trafficking strike forces within the next 30 days to help reduce violent crime by addressing illegal gun trafficking in significant firearms trafficking corridors. Tomorrow, the Attorney General will discuss with the President, law enforcement officials, and local and community leaders, this initiative, which, along with other measures, the Department of Justice is undertaking as part of the administration-wide comprehensive strategy to combat the rise in violent crime. The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced an unprecedented reduction in its numbers that would shrink the active duty Army to its smallest size since World War II.

A US Navy surveillance plane crashed Wednesday evening off the Virginia coast. Two people were rescued, and one person died.

The United States will provide $500 million in budgetary assistance to Ukraine as part of its aid to the country in the face of Russia’s invasion, President Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on a call on Wednesday.
Biden and Zelensky spoke over the phone for nearly an hour, the latest communication between the two leaders about the response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The two talked about U.S. efforts to provide military, economic and humanitarian assistance, according to a White House readout. GREENWOOD, Ind. — Suburban Indianapolis officers fatally shot a woman after she rammed multiple squad cars with her vehicle and nearly struck officers following a high-speed pursuit that ended in the police department’s parking lot, authorities said.
Officers in Greenwood, just south of Indianapolis, were responding about 11 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver when they spotted the woman’s car and a pursuit began through Greenwood’s downtown, police said. President Biden appeared to reveal on Monday that the US is training Ukrainian troops in Poland.
Biden made the comments when trying to explain a recent gaffe. In Poland on Friday, President Biden told members of the 82nd Airborne Division that Ukrainians were “stepping up” against the Russian assault and said, “You’re going to see when you’re there,” suggesting that the US soldiers would be entering the war zone. ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man is accused of stealing numerous boxes of guns and ammunition while working at a national shipping company in Minnesota, prosecutors said Monday.
Jason Cikotte, of Isanti, Minnesota, is charged in federal court with possession of stolen firearms. Authorities said the thefts occurred over the course of almost a year at the XPO Logistics facility in Fridley, north of Minneapolis. Just a day ahead of the Thursday emergency meeting of NATO leaders in Brussels, which Joe Biden will attend in person, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has previewed in a new speech that countries will commit to “major increases” in troops along Europe’s ‘eastern flank’.
He also took the opportunity to warn Russia to stop its ‘nuclear saber rattling’ – a day after the Pentagon called recent Kremlin remarks related to a heightened nuclear posture that was raised last month “dangerous”. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a virtual address to the U.S. Congress on Wednesday morning.
In addition to pleading for more military assistance against the Russian invasion and more sanctions against Russia, Zelensky suggested NATO and other postwar institutions have become obsolete and recommended replacing them with “new alliances” that could deter aggression and respond more effectively to humanitarian crises.
