An armed man was taken into custody after holding at least two people hostage for several hours in an office building in Norman, Oklahoma, on Monday, police said, adding there were no reported injuries.

Two Israelis have been killed in separate knife attacks in Tel Aviv and the occupied West Bank.
The first attack in Tel Aviv targeted a soldier. A Palestinian from the West Bank city of Nablus was arrested.

President Barack Obama urged the government to adopt tighter regulations on broadband service in an effort to preserve “a free and open Internet.”
In a statement released Monday, Obama called on the Federal Communications Commission to enforce the principle of treating Internet the same way, also known as Net neutrality. BEIJING – Putting a bright face on the future of U.S. ties to China, President Barack Obama announced Monday that the two countries would start granting visas to each other’s citizens valid for up to a decade. Yet thorny issues like human rights and trade lurked just under the surface, reflecting the tough road ahead for the two economic powers as Obama began a weeklong trip to the region.
Obama, addressing Asian business leaders at a high-level summit, sought to dispel the notion that America’s interest in Asia should be a cause for concern for China’s leaders. A high school in Colorado, one of the first two U.S. states to legalize recreational marijuana use, was put on partial lockdown on Friday after a student’s weed pipe filled a classroom with pot smoke, the school said.

A seven-year-old girl was accidentally shot by a police officer in front of a group of children while she was on a school trip to the Nottinghamshire Police department in the UK. The incident occurred last week and is currently being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Roseland, New Jersey – A group of police in Roseland, New Jersey recently filed a lawsuit against local Police Chief Richard McDonough.
In the lawsuit, the officers allege that the police chief is a “megalomaniacal despot” who protected corrupt local government officials and fabricated false misconduct reports against officers who refused to participate in the corruption that exists in the department. Forty-three Mexican students who went missing six weeks ago were likely abducted by police and handed over to a local gang who murdered them and burned their bodies, Mexico’s attorney general said Friday.
Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam said three members of the Guerreros Unidos gang were apprehended last week and confessed to burning a number of bodies near Iguala in the Guerrero state in an effort to remove evidence of the killings. President Barack Obama has approved sending up to 1,500 more troops to Iraq, roughly doubling the number of U.S. forces on the ground to advise and retrain Iraqis in their battle against the militant group Islamic State, U.S. officials said on Friday.
Obama’s decision greatly expands the scope of the U.S. campaign and the geographic distribution of American forces, some of whom will head into Iraq’s fiercely contested western Anbar province for the first time to act as advisors. A hospitalized patient went on a rampage at a Minnesota hospital on Sunday, attacking four nurses with a metal pole before being tased, wrestled to the ground and then dying while cuffed in the street three blocks away.
The violent attack, caught on surveillance video released to the public on Thursday, shows Charles Emmett Logan, 68, of St. Paul, Minn., wildly swinging a metal pole that he took from his hospital bed at St. John’s Hospital, Twin Cities.com reported. Unemployment rate drops to lowest level since July 2008
The Labor Department released last month’s employment figures Friday morning, and the report shows that the U.S. labor market has continued to post steady gains while some stubborn weak points still exist. Here are some key points from the October jobs report.
What you need to know: October was the 56th straight month of private-sector job gains in the U.S., and monthly gains have averaged about 227,000 so far this year. The job market has been steadily improving, which is good news. However, on the downside, hourly wages have struggled to make gains and the number of long-term unemployed is still almost 50% higher than it was before the recession hit.
