Who can argue with the notion that Mom is the original Queen of Hearts?

The idea of Mother’s Day has interesting roots:

The origins of Mother’s Day are attributed to different people. Many believe that two women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis were important in establishing the tradition of Mother’s Day in the United States. Continue reading “Happy Mother’s Day 2015”

Google’s android “Terminator” army is nearly ready for its assault on the human race. With tech pioneer Elon Musk (and physicist Stephen Hawking) urgently warning that artificial intelligence (AI) could destroy humanity, Google seems intent on building the android Terminator hardware that AI systems will inhabit. The result, warn an increasing number of experts, could spell the end of humanity and a literal “rise of the robots” as often depicted in sci-fi.   Continue reading “Google’s Military Robot Army Soon Ready for Terminator Assault on Humanity”

Hundreads of trees sit dead in the San Bernardino National Forest in California, due to drought and the bark beetle.Think Progress – by Natasha Geiling

As California’s historic drought continues into its fourth year, the state’s forests are being hit hard by years of below-average precipitation. According to a new study conducted by the U.S. Forest Service, at least 12.5 million trees in California’s national forests have died during the current drought — adding more brittle, dry vegetation to areas already threatened by potentially explosive wildfires.

“The situation is incendiary,” William Patzert, a climatologist for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, told the Los Angeles Times. “The national forest is stressed out.”   Continue reading “At Least 12 Million Trees Are Dead Because Of California’s Drought”

Two Chinese philanthropists have created a “death simulator” allowing willing participants to experience cremation.

The Samadhi Game, located in a corner of the Window of the World amusement park in Shenzhen, opened in September 2014 and for roughly £26 simulates players’ deaths by placing them in a coffin and then transporting them to the incinerator.

Once inside, players are then blasted by hot air (up to 40C) and light to create an “authentic experience of burning,” according to its creators, Huange Weiping and Ding Rui.

When the “burning” is over, volunteers see a womb projected on the ceiling and must crawl until they reach a large, white padded area – supposedly representing a womb – where they are “reborn”. Continue reading “Gee, Sounds Like Fun: Chinese ‘Death Simulator’ Replicates Cremation”

A North Carolina veteran very much alive is fighting for his life following a clerical error that resulted in his family getting a document from the departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense stating he had died.

The notices, along with the government’s condolences, came with two checks to help pay for burial costs for Robert Pressley — but because the system now says Pressley is deceased, his benefits reportedly have been terminated.   Continue reading “VA claims living veteran is dead, sends burial check, cuts benefits”

All the best shooters got their start with pellet pushers.

The slow recoil and low exit speeds of ‘springers’ amplify user error, when you can get it right with a spring powered gun you’ll be ahead of the game with a PCP, rim fire, or centre fire rifle.    Continue reading “Reasons For Buying An Air Rifle”

It’s been called the greatest mind control device known to humanity, and amazingly it’s the one addiction that when truly broken can most change your life forever. Yes, that’s how bad this problem of mind control has become. You can cut the degree of mind control deception with a knife, it’s so thick. Truth Dig – by David Sirota

If after last week’s Bridgegate indictments you thought Chris Christie was finally done as the focus of government investigations, think again. The Republican governor’s administration in New Jersey is facing a whole new inquiry—this one involving hundreds of millions of dollars, and not just blocked-off bridge lanes.

At issue are the fees being paid by New Jersey’s beleaguered public pension system to Wall Street firms. In recent years, Christie’s officials have shifted more of the retirement savings of teachers, firefighters, police officers and other public workers into the hands of private financial firms. That has substantially increased the management fees paid by taxpayers to those firms. Indeed, while Christie says the pension system cannot afford to maintain current retirement benefits, pension fees paid to financial firms have quadrupled to $600 million a year—or $1.5 billion in total since he took office in 2010.   Continue reading “Christie’s Administration Is Facing Another Investigation”

Umm…What?

Ok, ok. This is for real. Reading to your child “unfairly” advantages your child over children who don’t get read to. You see, your child should be a blithering automaton like the rest of the kids out there.

According to a recent study published in the journal Physiology and Behavior, driving while dehydrated is just as dangerous as driving drunk.

In addition to drivers not bringing adequate beverages on long road trips, many do not stop intermittently to drink fluids when thirsty. In a haste to reach their destination, some drivers avoid all food and drink throughout their road journey. Doing so, however, may prove to be a neglectful habit that can endanger themselves, other occupants, as well as other drivers on the road.   Continue reading “Study: Driving While Dehydrated ‘Just as Dangerous as Driving Intoxicated’”
