A truck rammed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the French Riviera city of Nice on Thursday night, killing at least 70 people in an apparent attack, French officials said.

The chief of the Fresno Police Department took the rare step Wednesday of publicly releasing the body-camera video footage of officers fatally shooting an unarmed 19-year-old man last month — a shooting that has generated fierce protests amid a roiling national debate over police brutality.

Just when it seemed former President George W. Bush was at a safe enough distance from the public eye, he sparked another media storm by swaying side to side to organ music at a memorial service for slain Dallas police officers, as the nation watched on.

Enjoying himself a little too much, Bush threatened to spoil the entire somber mood of the occasion as he held hands with Michelle Obama, who in turn held the hand of her husband, the incumbent president, forming a chain of hands that included other senior White House officials. A top staffer at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was fatally shot in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. Seth Conrad Rich was shot several times a block from his home in D.C.’s neighborhood of Bloomingdale.
