Senators from both parties linked arms to defy Sen. Ted Cruz, overcoming his attempt to filibuster the stopgap spending bill, which allowed Democrats to add back in full funding for Obamacare and power the bill through the chamber and sending it back to the House.

“This is it. Time is gone,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who said he will not negotiate with the House GOP anymore. “They need to accept what we just passed.”   Continue reading “Senate defeats Cruz filibuster, passes bill that funds Obamacare”

Beyond Chronic

I ran across the name John Novak this morning, and saw that he ran a site with the intriguing name of 420 Leaks, so I decided to look it up. Mr. Novak seems to be a lot like me in that he loves to pore through old information and records, finding fascinating tidbits that are useful for medical and legal arguments supporting cannabis.

So I started reading through some of his recent articles, and found this great article about the pre-1937 medicinal cannabis market. It quotes a U.S. Department of Agriculture farmer’s bulletin which gives some great hints for growing cannabis plants on a farm, describes how to properly process them for use in the drug market (!), and concludes with the fact that “The market price in January, 1927, for domestic cannabis (U.S.P.) was 23 to 33 cents a pound”. This was the fair, open market price before all the “reefer madness” hysteria we all know so well, so it’s untainted by ideology.   Continue reading “Legal Marijuana Should Cost $4.44 A Pound”

According to the official story of the Navy Yard Shooting, Aaron Alexis went to the store the weekend before the shooting and bought a Remington 870 Express Tactical shotgun. They claim there is video of him making that purchase, but the FBI has that video so we’ll never see it.

Anyway, when I saw the images of the shotgun released by the FBI this past week, something jumped out at me: he bought what appears to be a used piece of crap shotgun?  Continue reading “Navy Yard Shooting: Suspect Bought a Rusty Used Gun? For $400? FBI Photos”

We've Only Just Begun to Resist Indefinite DetentionTenth Amendment Center – by Mike Maharrey

In a recent column, Chris Hedges argued that his appeal to the Supreme Court will be “the last chance” to stop indefinite detention under the National Defense Authorization Act.

Sadly, history indicates his last stand will likely fail.

Hedges and his fellow plaintiffs put their faith in a branch of the federal government to limit the powers of the federal government.   Continue reading “We’ve Only Just Begun to Resist Indefinite Detention”

Prisons for Profit?

Why not? Anything for profit if you don’t mind that fact that the love of money is root of all evil – life-long debt, a Permanent War Policy, killer vaccinations and addictive prescription drugs, lone nuts on Ritalin shooting up schools, US senators treated like royalty, all their money in Defense Bonds, no prosperity in sight for anyone at all fifty million Americans on food stamps, the rest trained to regard them as ‘takers’ when the rest outsourced their jobs… for  money.   Continue reading “US Has more People in Jail than China and Russia Combined. The US Department of Justice spent millions of dollars purchasing small unarmed drones for domestic use over the last decade, but the department lacks a comprehensive policy for the unmanned aircraft — despite growing concern about their use.

In a report released Thursday, the DOJ’s inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, said the department’s agencies had an “uncoordinated approach” to their use of drones.    Continue reading “US Department of Justice spent millions on domestic drones”
