Humanity Awakens – by Jim Costa
“If only you believe like I believe in miracles, we’d get by.”
One of my life defining moments occurred while driving from work back to my lonely apartment. I was working thirty miles west and had been dating my wife for three months, who lived thirty miles east. The radio played the Beach Boys’ song with the words. “Wouldn’t it be nice to say “good night” and stay together? Wouldn’t it be nice?” I realized at that moment that my life was all wrong. I was working hard to create exactly what I didn’t want – unhappiness. I drove straight to her house and announced that I was moving in. I have to admit that all I got back was a giant blank look, but we were married in another three months and every day since the Beach Boys, we have both known the true miracle of being a human and co-creating us; God, it’s nice. 25 Signs That Military Veterans Are Being Treated Like Absolute Trash Under The Obama Administration
End of the American Dream – by Michael Snyder, May 30, 2013
Why does the Obama administration treat our military veterans like human garbage? Every year on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, Barack Obama and our other politicians make very nice speeches, but the truth about how they feel about our veterans can be seen in how they are treated every single day. In the United States today, there are well over half a million veterans that have been waiting for at least 125 days to have their benefit claims processed. Many of them will ultimately have their claims sent back or denied just so a government employee somewhere can get a bigger bonus. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Six states were named Monday by federal officials to develop test sites for drones — a critical next step for the burgeoning industry that could one day produce thousands of unmanned aircraft for use by businesses, farmers and researchers.
Alaska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia will host the research sites, providing diverse climates, geography and air traffic environments as the Federal Aviation Administration seeks to safely introduce commercial drones into U.S. airspace. VOLGOGRAD, Russia (Reuters) – President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday vowed to annihilate “terrorists” following two deadly bomb attacks in less than 24 hours in the southern Russian city of Volgograd that raised security fears ahead of the Winter Olympics.
The uncompromising remarks in a New Year’s Eve address were Putin’s first public comments since suicide bombers killed at least 34 people in attacks on a railway station and a trolleybus on Sunday and Monday. Continue reading “Putin vows to annihilate “terrorists” after suicide bombings”
WASHINGTON — The number of law-enforcement officers killed by firearms in 2013 fell to levels not seen since the days of the Wild West, according to a report released Monday.

A video made by a man from North Dakota shows him cautiously holding a lighter up against the stream of water coming out of his tap, prompting large flames to rise up into the faucet. North Dakota has been home to a fracking boom over the past few years.
“First time I did it, it was a huge fireball [that] took up the entire sink – so that’s why I’m a little jumpy doing it. I don’t want to blow up the bathroom here,” he laughed during the demonstration. A huge flame shot up as the running water appeared to catch alight. Continue reading “Fracking hot: N. Health experts are testing the quality of the air in a North Dakota town after most residents evacuated Monday night following a fiery crude oil train derailment.
The fire had been so intense as darkness fell that investigators couldn’t even get close enough to count the number of burning cars. Some burned through the night.
“Is it highly hazardous or did most of it burn off in the fire?” Casselton Sheriff Paul Laney said of elements in burning crude that could be risky for health. “We just don’t know.” Continue reading “Health experts testing air quality after ND town evacuates over fiery oil train derailment”
NY – The department’s prototype “smart car,” outfitted with the latest gadgets in public safety. It has two infrared monitors mounted on the trunk that record any numbers it sees—such as license plates and addresses. It has surveillance cameras and air sensors capable of sending real-time information to police headquarters. The NYPD says it is the cruiser of the very near future. Imagine cows fed and milked entirely by robots. Or tomatoes that send an e-mail when they need more water. Or a farm where all the decisions about where to plant seeds, spray fertilizer and steer tractors are made by software on servers on the other side of the sea.
This is what more and more of our agriculture may come to look like in the years ahead, as farming meets Big Data. There’s no shortage of farmers and industry gurus who think this kind of “smart” farming could bring many benefits. Pushing these tools onto fields, the idea goes, will boost our ability to control this fiendishly unpredictable activity and help farmers increase yields even while using fewer resources. The Economic Collapse – by Michael Snyder
In America today, there are close to 50 million people living in poverty and there are more than 100 million people that get money from the federal government every month. As the middle class disintegrates, poverty is climbing to unprecedented levels.
Even though the stock market has been setting record high after record high, the amount of anger and frustration boiling just under the surface in our nation grows with each passing day. And now extended unemployment benefits have been cut off for 1.3 million unemployed Americans, and it is being projected that a total of 5 million unemployed Americans will lose their benefits by the end of 2014. (Daily Mail) – The Boy Scouts of America will accept openly gay youths starting New Year’s Day, marking a historic shift that spells major changes to policies on tentmates and showers.
Yet despite their be-prepared approach, BSA leaders are rooting for the change to be a non-event, comparable to another New Year’s Day in 2000 when widespread fears of digital-clock chaos to start the new millennium proved unfounded. (Examiner) – At the Starbucks annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday, CEO Howard Schultz sent a clear message to anyone who supports traditional marriageover gay marriage: we don’t want your business. After saying Starbucks wants to “embrace diversity of all kinds,” he told a shareholder who supports traditional marriage that he should sell his shares and invest in some other company.
According to a report by Forbes, Schultz seemed a bit intolerant of any Starbucks shareholders who opposed gay marriage for moral or religious reasons. During the meeting, shareholder Tom Strobhar (who founded the Corporate Morality Action Center) pointed out that after the company voiced its support for a referendum backing gay marriage in Washington state, a boycott by traditional marriage supporters caused a drop in sales revenue. Schultz told him “You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company” if he did not agree with the company’s pro-gay marriage stand. Michael Bloomberg signed a bill Monday to regulate the use of electronic cigarettes — one of 22 bills he signed at City Hall that are the last he will sign as mayor of New York City, according to Evelyn Erskine, his deputy press secretary.
The legislation amends the Smoke-Free Air Act, which bans smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars, parks, beaches and places of employment. It now additionally prohibits the use of electronic cigarettes in all areas where smoking is prohibited. Continue reading “Bloomberg signs his last 22 bills; one regulates e-cigarette use”
