WASHINGTON — Several organizations representing state and local law enforcement are quietly trying to kill a bipartisan bill that would roll back tough mandatory sentences for people convicted of federal drug offenses under legislation passed during the height of America’s drug war three decades ago.

The police officer who mistakenly shot and killed a Hofstra University student as she was held at gunpoint by a Long Island intruder last year has been cleared of wrongdoing.

The largest massacre of American civilians by the US government since Wounded Knee climaxed on April 19, 1993. The siege that had begun on February 28 with a botched ATF publicity stunt ended when the and home went up in flames, after an FBI-operated tank on lease from the military was driven through the building, pumping flammable CS gas for six hours into the place where women and children were cowering in fear. At least one shot was fired Wednesday at Kent State University in Ohio, according to school officials.

Over the next few days we will learn much more about the man authorities have identified as the Ft. Hood shooter.

Four people are confirmed dead and at least 14 people are injured following Wednesday nights shooting at the army post.

The shooter has now been identified as 34 year-old Ivan Lopez. Early reports indicated there may have been two shooters. A woman says they attacked her and her family as her kids watched in horror.

When U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power testifies before a House Appropriations subcommittee on Wednesday, the panel will consider a budget request for international organizations that is 33 percent bigger than last year’s, including a 43 percent hike in U.S. contributions to peacekeeping missions.

The administration’s fiscal year 2015 budget request for the U.N. and other organizations is $4.036 billion, up from $3.031 billion in FY2014.
