The dreaded Ebola virus has spread from the jungle into major cities in West Africa, and at least one American congressman believes it’s time to ban citizens of the three hardest-hit countries, as well as foreigners who recently visited them, from entering the U.S.

Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., requested the travel ban in a Tuesday letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry.   Continue reading “Congressman: Close Border to Ebola Countries”

National Review – by Ryan Lovelace

The House supplemental appropriations bill aimed at addressing the border crisis before the August recess would allow more unaccompanied alien children to stay in the U.S., increase the immigration bureaucracy, and add to existing immigration-court backlogs, according to an internal NumbersUSA analysis obtained byNational Review Online.

In its analysis of the bill, NumbersUSA, a group that advocates for less immigration, argues that the bill would create a new hearing process — a “235B” proceeding — for unaccompanied alien children (UAC) who do not express a credible fear of persecution, are not victims of trafficking, and do not volunteer to return to their country of origin (which presumably will include a great deal of them). The 235B proceeding must be completed before the standard removal process would begin.   Continue reading “Report: House Border Bill Could Make It Easier for Unaccompanied Children to Stay Here”

The Intercept has published a 166-page manual of how the federal government puts people on the “no-fly list” and monitors American citizens. Obtained from whistleblower Edward Snowden, the information on the Glenn Greenwald-founded website revealed that the Obama administration has lowered the legal threshold for warrantless government surveillance of American citizens.

The new round of American economic sanctions imposed against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis will only further worsen relations between Washington and Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Washington will gain nothing from such decisions except for further complication of Russian-American relations and the creation of an unfavorable atmosphere in international affairs, where the cooperation between our countries often plays a key role,” the statement by the ministry reads.   Continue reading “Moscow: US will feel ‘tangible losses’ from ‘destructive, myopic’ sanctions”

“I really was backed into a corner,” Ventura told RT. “I was left with no choice but to continue the litigation to clear my name because the story is fabricated.”   Continue reading “Jesse Ventura: ‘I may criticize my government, but I have never criticized the soldier’”

Nearly every criminal case the FBI and US Justice Department has reviewed during a major investigation that began in 2012 regarding an FBI lab unit has involved flawed forensic testimony, The Washington Post reported.

The review – originally spurred by a Post report in 2012 over flawed forensic testimony by Federal Bureau of Investigation lab technicians that may have led to convictions of hundreds of innocent people – was cut short last August when its findings “troubled the bureau,” according to the Post. The review was ordered by the Justice Department (DOJ) to resume this month, government officials said.   Continue reading “FBI forensic lab misconduct could affect 2,600 convictions, 45 death row cases”

PARIS (AP) — Rats are on the rampage in the elegant garden of the Louvre Museum, so bold they romp on the grass in broad daylight, defying death threats from sanitation workers and scaring tourists.

The hot weather in Paris has brought many picnicking visitors to the garden, whose garbage is a feast for the rats. And they’re getting help from animal lovers who dig up poison and feed them water. Maybe it’s the “Ratatouille” effect, with the beloved French rat Remy from Disney’s computer animated film helping real-life rats win Parisian hearts.   Continue reading “Elegant Louvre Garden in Paris infested with rats”

An Ohio sheriff on Tuesday sent an ‘Open Letter’ to Mexico’s president requesting $900,000 for “dealing with your criminals.”

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones sent the letter to Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto requesting repayment for the 3,000 Mexican nationals arrested in his county over the past ten years. It was rough math, but he wants to charge Mexico for their jail time, which he figured was about five days, on average.   Continue reading “Ohio sheriff sends Mexico $900,000 bill for jailing illegals”

Law enforcement in many states are making a greater number of marijuana arrests than ever before despite polling data showing that the majority of Americans believe that the adult use of the plant ought to be legal.

According to a just published report, “Marijuana in the States 2012: Analysis and Detailed Data on Marijuana Use and Arrests,” which appears on the newly launched RegulatingCannabis.com website, police made an estimated 750,000 arrests for marijuana violations in 2012 – a 110 percent increase in annual arrests since 1991. Yet, despite this doubling in annual marijuana arrests over the past two decades, there has not been any significant reduction in marijuana consumption in the United States the report found.   Continue reading “Study: Arrests For Marijuana Offenses Increasing In Many States”

France’s politicians and community leaders have criticised the “intolerable” violence against Paris’ Jewish community, after a pro-Palestinian rally led to the vandalizing and looting of Jewish businesses and the burning of cars.

It is the third time in a week where pro-Palestinian activists have clashed with the city’s Jewish residents. On Sunday, locals reported chats of “Gas the Jews” and “Kill the Jews”, as rioters attacked businesses in the Sarcelles district, known as “little Jerusalem”.   Continue reading “France’s Jews Flee As Rioters Burn Paris Shops, Attack Synagogue”

The unprecedented Ebola epidemic has now killed 660 people in four African countries since it was first detected in March. Interestingly enough, angry locals are now blaming foreign health workers for spreading the disease. The fear of aid workers, mainly from ‘Doctors Without Borders’ is helping to spread the disease, health officials say. The article explains that whenever a westerner passes, villagers cry out, “Ebola, Ebola!” and run away.

This Times article and huge front page photo are intended to portray frightened African villagers as paranoid, superstitious and ignorant:   Continue reading “NY Times: Fear of Ebola Breeds a Terror of Physicians”

When his 27-year old daughter Lisa died suddenly of liver failure five years ago, Steve Mason was as devastated as any father would be.

He and his wife Darnelle immediately took in Lisa’s three children — ages 4, 7 and 9 at the time — even though they knew it would be a huge struggle to support them. Steve earns less than $75,000 per year as a pastor, while Darnelle earns even less as a director at the same church.   Continue reading “Grieving parents hit with $200,000 in student loans”
