At the nation’s first official Independence Day celebration, there were no fireworks, no sparklers, and no rowdy parties. The parade was solemn, with reverent music and the call-and-response singing of two choirs. Songs were sung in German.
Those marking the nation’s hard-won independence at that first celebration had not participated in the long and bloody war, and they were not celebrating the newly free nation’s victory over the British oppressors at Yorktown. They were thanking God for peace. Continue reading “The First Americans to Observe the 4th Were Moravian Pacifists”
A leaked memo attributed to RAND corporation think tank suggests the Ukrainian govt should engage in an all-out war in the east, including shutting down all communications, putting citizens in internment camps and killing all who resist such actions.
In the shocking letter, which has been leaked to online media, the advice offers a step by step brutal guide in how to deal with the population in eastern Ukraine. July 2014 – NORTH CAROLINA – More than 22,000 Americans were without power at the start of the July 4th holiday after Hurricane Arthur scythed through North Carolina’s Outer Banks early Friday. Thousands more had already fled in preparation for the Category 2 storm, which has seen maximum sustained wind speeds of 100 miles per hour, lashings of rain and a storm surge of up to five feet. Arthur is not only the first hurricane this season, but also the first to hit the United States since Sandy caused $70 billion damage across New Jersey and New York in October 2012. California’s drought is intensifying, turning more farms to dust, fanning fires, draining fountains and driving “unbelievable” prices at water auctions.
A map released by the US Drought Monitor on Thursday classified nearly 80% of California as in “extreme” drought, the second highest of five categories. Within that area an estimated 36% is “exceptional” drought, the highest category. Continue reading “California severe drought intensifying as Napa wildfire rages on”

While its corporate motto is “Don’t be evil,” its critics might say “Don’t be Google.” And this is especially true now that Google is saying “Don’t buy guns.”
The search giant has announced that, starting in September, it will ban advertising of firearms, ammunition, and gun paraphernalia. As Google Support writes on its “Dangerous Products or Services” page, “Our policy: We want to help keep people safe both online and offline, so we don’t allow the promotion of some products or services that cause damage, harm, or injury.” Consequently, the ad ban will include, explains the company: Continue reading “Google’s War on Guns”
Let me preface this story by saying that all the police that I personally know here in Florida are fantastic people, excellent law-abiding officers and strong Christians. But story after story from all across America seems to show a rising tide of excessive police force in the Obama age. What has been your personal experience with law enforcement? Another interview, another gaffe for Hillary Clinton.
The former secretary of State, who’s been heavily promoting her new book “Hard Choices” in a likely precursor to running for president in 2016, appeared to state the Conservative and Tory Parties in Britain were rival political parties during a BBC interview.
“Tory” is in fact another name for the Conservative Party in Britain. Continue reading “Clinton gaffe: Former secretary of State confuses Britain’s political parties”

Independence Day amnesia rears its ugly head every year in July in America. Yes, Independence Day is here again in the United States, but you wouldn’t know it. Everyone is walking around saying “4th of July”! What are your plans for the 4th of July? What are you doing on the 4th? Are you going to watch the fireworks on the 4th? Pardon my language, but what’s the friggin’ deal with all that? Why is no one calling the day by its proper name, “Independence Day”? Am I the only one here not suffering from Independence Day amnesia?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A south Arkansas woman celebrated her 116th birthday Friday with cake, a party and a new title — she’s now officially the oldest confirmed living American and second-oldest person in the world, the Gerontology Research Group said.
Gertrude Weaver spent her birthday at home at Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Camden, about 100 miles southwest of Little Rock. This year’s festivities included the new award from the Gerontology Research Group, which analyzed U.S. Census records to determine that Weaver is the oldest living American, rather than 115-year-old Jeralean Talley, who was born in 1899. As the cost of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet continues to grow, so do the headaches: the United States military announced on Thursday that its entire fleet of aircraft has been grounded until engine inspections are completed.
The decision comes as the Pentagon struggles to find the source of yet another problem with the $398.6 billion program. On June 23, an F-35 caught fire as the pilot attempted to take off at a Florida air base. According to Reuters, one unidentified source described the incident by saying, “The engine ripped through the top of the plane.” Continue reading “F-35 fleet grounded for the eighth time over unknown engine issue”
