A former top U.S. Senate aide awaiting trial on child pornography charges was found dead after what may have been a suicide, a Maryland sheriff’s department said on Friday.

The body of Jesse Loskarn, 35, a former chief of staff to Republican Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, was discovered in the basement of his family’s home in Sykesville, Maryland, on Thursday, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Around 17,000 people staged a ‘Day of Anger’ demonstration in central Paris on Sunday to slam French President Francois Hollande’s policies.

Two white doves released by children standing alongside Pope Francis as a peace gesture today were attacked by other birds.

As tens of thousands of people watched in St. Peter’s Square, a seagull and a large black crow swept down on the doves right after they were set free from an open window of the Apostolic Palace.

One dove lost some feathers as it broke free from the gull. But the crow pecked repeatedly at the other dove.
