SEATTLE (AP) — The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Tacoma officer has been shot and killed by police after a lengthy barricade situation, authorities said early Thursday. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer says the suspect was shot at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday, ending an 11-hour standoff. The suspect has not been identified.

Troyer said the suspect refused to surrender during negotiations with officials, and that the man was using two children as human shields. Troyer says a girl and a boy, found unharmed, were taken from the house. The Plano resident used a razor blade to scrape away the sticker that had been placed on her mailbox. She’s not the only one in her Hunters Ridge neighborhood in Plano that has it.

Yesterday, Kellogg Co., which manufactures popular breakfast cereals and other products, decided to pull its advertising from Brietbart News, which reports conservative news — including pro-life news. The company claimed the web site’s conservative readers are not “aligned with our values as a company.”

“We regularly work with our media-buying partners to ensure our ads do not appear on sites that aren’t aligned with our values as a company,” said Kellogg’s spokesman Kris Charles. “We recently reviewed the list of sites where our ads can be placed and decided to discontinue advertising on Breitbart.com. A man who discovered a real-life pot of gold was captured on surveillance video apparently stealing it from the back of an armored truck in broad daylight. The aluminum pail was filled with 86 pounds of gold flakes, worth an estimated $1.6 million.

The alleged theft happened earlier this fall in midtown Manhattan, on Sept. 29 at about 4:30 p.m., according to a news release from the New York Police Department on Tuesday.

Charlotte, NC — The Charlotte police officer who killed Keith Lamont Scott will not be charged. In a news conference on Wednesday, R. Andrew Murray, the Mecklenburg County district attorney, said he was “entirely convinced” that Police Officer Brentley Vinson “was lawful in using deadly force.”

The Department of Health and Human Services is raiding several of its accounts, including money for Medicare, the Ryan White AIDS/HIV program and those for cancer and flu research to cover a shortfall in housing illegal youths pouring over the border at a rate of 255 a day.
