Students will never be returning to Building 12 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School again.
Florida legislators said Thursday they will provide the resources to help the Broward School District tear down Building 12, the site of the massacre that killed 17 students and teachers. They want to build a new classroom space and replace the site of the murders with a memorial to honor the victims and their families. Stephen Paddock, Omar Mateen, Gavin Long, Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold, James Holmes, and now, Nikolas Cruz all have one thing in common other than the mass murders they carried out. They were all reportedly taking prescription drugs which alter their state of mind and carry a host of negative side effects ranging from aggression and suicide to homicidal ideation. After living my entire life in Venezuela, I have gone through a lot of things, as you must know after reading my stuff. This time I would like to write about something very important, especially for those fellows living in countries where the LEOs and similar personnel have good salaries, where the sanctions for those who don´t obey the laws are severe, and most importantly, there is an entire punitive system for the infractors. Many Jews view the Torah as a gift from God that belongs to the Jewish people alone, but is that still the case? More specifically, should Torah study only be for Jews?
Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh, one of Israel’s foremost teachers of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) and Chassidut (the study of the inner dimensions of Torah), has been addressing this question for the past few years. Continue reading “The Time Has Come For Mass Torah Study for Gentiles”
HB 4145, Kate Brown’s gun confiscation bill, passed the Oregon House Thursday on a 37 to 23 vote.
The bill got the vote of every House Democrat except Caddy McKewon, who has supported previous gun confiscation bills. She must be reading her mail.
Republican Andy Olson, who voted for the bill in committee, listened to his constituents and voted NO on the floor. If you live in Olson’s district you may want to let him know you approve of his change of position. Continue reading “Gun Confiscation Bill Passes Oregon House”
MEXICO CITY (AP) — A powerful magnitude-7.2 earthquake shook south and central Mexico Friday, causing people to flee swaying buildings and office towers in the country’s capital, where residents were still jittery after a deadly quake five months ago.
Crowds of people gathered on Mexico City’s central Reforma Avenue as well as on streets in Oaxaca state’s capital, nearer the quake’s epicenter, which was in a rural area close to Mexico’s Pacific coast and the border with Guerrero state. Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High may not have to return to the three-story building that was the site of the deadliest school shooting in Florida history.
The school district has proposed tearing down the building on campus that housed freshmen, Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said Friday. It was the spot where many of the 17 students and faculty were murdered Wednesday by a gunman with an AR-15-style weapon. Former student Nikolas Cruz has been charged with the killings. Austrian snowboarder Markus Schairer’s quest for Olympic gold was cut short when he broke his neck in a horrible fall during the men’s snowboard cross quarterfinals Thursday.
As he descended from a jump, Schairer’s board started to tilt upward and as he came closer to the ground, he landed with all momentum on his back. In a slow-motion video, his head snaps back and hits the ground before the goggles fly off from his mask and he lies for a few moments on the ground. Somehow, he returned to his feet and finished the heat. Continue reading “Snowboarder breaks his neck in terrifying crash at Olympics”

Often times people view me only as the sheriff of Broward County. They seem to forget that I am a father and husband first. My primary responsibility is to protect my family. However, as your sheriff, it is also my responsibility to ensure the very same safety for the citizens of Broward County. I can assure you that the safety of our community is not something I take lightly. Continue reading “Flashback: A Message From Sheriff Scott Israel – Gun Safety and Responsibility”
