Law enforcement’s use of facial recognition technology during investigations has blossomed in recent years thanks in no small part to a booming surveillance industry built on the back of an ever-expanding buffet of publicly available biometric data. The limits on where and how that technology can be used though remain legally murky and are constantly evolving. Now, it appears at least some law enforcement agents are flirting with the idea of using facial recognition at otherwise seemingly benign traffic stops, a potential loosening of the tech’s use that has legal and privacy experts on edge. Following its historic shift to being a net exporter of petroleum in 2020, the United States continued to export more petroleum (which includes crude oil, refined petroleum products, and other liquids) than it imported in 2021. According to our February 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), we expect net crude oil imports to increase, making the United States a net importer of petroleum in 2022. WASHINGTON, District of Columbia — “The People’s Convoy” is rolling out to drive around the D.C. Beltway — Interstate 495 — a 64-mile loop that surrounds the nation’s capital covering Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

The national average price for a gallon of gas has skyrocketed to $4.00 – the highest national average in nearly 14 years.
The $4.00 national average is a 40 cent jump from last week and a 57 cent increase from just a month ago, AAA reports. On March 6 of last year, prices averaged $2.76 per gallon nationally. The national average is the highest it has been since July of 2008, CNBC reports. That month, gas price averages maxed out at 4.11 cents, which is the all-time record. SAN DIEGO, CA- Two California brothers have been indicted for violating arms export laws to the benefit of China, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Joe Sery, 77, who used to run a San Diego-based company that manufactures tungsten components for the United States military, along with his brother Dror, 70, have been indicted on charges related to a conspiracy to export sensitive information about defense systems to both China and India without a license. Late Sunday night Andrews Air Force base went on emergency lockdown amid initial reports that an “active shooter” may be on base. Crucially the security incident came almost simultaneous to Vice President Kamala Harris and four cabinet secretaries landing at Andrews after returning from a short trip to Selma, Alabama.
