A man used a vulgar insult for the president when calling into a Christmas event on Friday and speaking with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden.

The Bidens had been speaking with children and their parents who had dialed into a phone line run by the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks Santa Claus’ path across the globe. The president and first lady surprised callers, asking the children what they wanted for Christmas and wishing them a happy holiday. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued emergency use authorization to a second oral COVID-19 treatment. Called molnupiravir the new drug is not as effective as Pfizer’s recently approved COVID antiviral pill, and many experts suggest the FDA should never have authorized it in the first place as it has the potential to generate new SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Just a few months ago molnupiravir, being developed by pharma giant Merck, was being mooted as a game-changing new drug that could turn the tide of the pandemic. It was one of the first antiviral pills to directly target SARS-CoV-2, and a preliminary Phase 3 trial announcement indicated promising efficacy.  Continue reading “FDA authorization of Merck COVID pill called “worst decision in its history””

“Jingle Bells” is one of the most performed and well-known secular holiday songs ever written, not only in the United States, but around the world. It’s the first song to have been broadcast from space—by Gemini 6 astronauts nine days before Christmas in 1965. It’s regularly been sung at the White House—most recently by President Barack Obama and his family upon lighting the National Christmas Tree in 2016.  Continue reading “Jingle all the way? Maybe not”

Dozens of flights have been canceled across the US on Christmas Eve due to Covid staff shortages with thousands of passengers stuck at the airports and others forced to cancel holidays altogether.

“The nationwide spike in Omicron cases this week has had a direct impact on our flight crews and the people who run our operation. As a result, we’ve unfortunately had to cancel some flights and are notifying impacted customers in advance of them coming to the airport,” Chicago-based United Airlines said in a statement. The Archbishop of Canterbury has suggested that refusing to take the coronavirus vaccine goes against the Christian faith, claiming that turning down the jab violates the principle of “loving thy neighbour”.

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, the top bishop in the Church of England, said that getting vaccinated is a “moral issue” which should supersede personal desires or rights. Continue reading “Jabs 4 Jesus? Refusing Vaccination Goes Against Christianity, Says Archbishop”

The World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) warned Tuesday there is too much at stake to celebrate Christmas this year, cautioning it is better to either cancel or postpone the annual festivities than risk the death of a loved one.

W.H.O. director-general and Ethiopian biologist Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told journalists in Geneva the “fastest way” to “get back to normal” is for people to cancel or delay Christmas events, the Daily Mail reports. Continue reading “W.H.O. Says Cancel Christmas Now or ‘Grieve Later’”

Controversial cartoonist Ben Garrison’s latest offering takes aim at former President Donald Trump – who once invited him to the White House for a social media summit.

Donald Trump said Wednesday that people unvaccinated against coronavirus are the ones getting ‘very sick’ as he pushed back against conservative Candace Owens by claiming all Americans should get the jab while he again took credit for its creation.

‘I came up with a vaccine – with three vaccines,’ Trump told the Daily Wire host, referring to the development of the Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines while he was still president. ‘All are very, very good. Came up with three of them in less than nine months. It was supposed to take five to 12 years.’ Continue reading “Trump’s stirring vaccine defense: Ex-president says most Americans dying or hospitalized because of COVID are unvaccinated and encourages everyone to get the shot as Omicron fuels 38% spike in daily cases”

Walmart illegally dumps more than 1 million batteries, aerosol cans of insect killer, toxic cleaning supplies, electronic waste, latex paints, and other hazardous waste into California landfills each year, state prosecutors charged Monday in a lawsuit that the company labeled unjustified. “As we shop the brightly packed aisles there are products that will never make it into the cart—returned, damaged or pulled from the shelves for a variety of reasons,” said California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the AP reports. When stores dispose of those products, he said, they should do it properly, as everyone else has to do. But Walmart, Bonta said, “has failed to do that on a grand scale here.”  Continue reading “Walmart Faces State Suit Over Toxic Dumping”
