Two important regulatory developments are converging in the United States and the United Kingdom at the same time for the ill-fated COVID-19 investigational vaccines.

In America, the Centers for Disease Control has logged more grim milestones as of June 4, 2021, with 329,021 certified serious safety reports including 5,888 deaths and 19,597 hospitalizations. While the CDC has stated twice on their website that none of the deaths were caused by the vaccine, without external unbiased safety mechanisms including critical event committee, data safety monitoring board, and human ethics board, interpretation of the CDC causality claim can only be made in the context of semantics.

Moderna will begin studying its COVID vaccine in pregnant women, according to a posting on ClinicalTrials.gov. The observational study, expected to begin July 22, will enroll about 1,000 females over age 18 who will be studied over a 21-month period.

Gov. Tate Reeves is increasing the presence of state police in Jackson to help address rocketing crime in the capital city, including adding narcotics agents, saying government’s most basic responsibility is to protect its citizens.

Wheat farmers across the country are facing lower yields as 98% of the country’s wheat crop is in areas experiencing drought.

In the Northern Plains, the Department of Agriculture said Monday that farmers were projected to harvest their smallest crop of spring wheat—crops planted in the spring and harvested in the autumn—in 33 years. This week, the North Dakota Wheat Commission noted in its weekly update that some farmers saw rain and lowered temperatures following last week’s searing heat, but conditions are still worrisome.
