By Phillip Smith / Independent Media Institute — A 78-year-old Niagara Falls man using a wheelchair was thrown out on the street last week for using medical marijuana in the federally subsidized housing unit he called home. Under harsh federal regulations, operators of such facilities are free to evict tenants who use medical marijuana—even if it legal in the state where they reside, as it is in New York.

According to the Associated Press, it went down like this: The man evicted, John Flickner, had lived for two years at federally subsidized Niagara Towers and obtained marijuana from Canada to use for back pain. In June, inspectors found marijuana in his apartment and called police. They declined to arrest him but instead advised him to get a doctor’s recommendation. NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Nearly 30,000 pounds of Jimmy Dean sausage links was recalled after five people complained about finding metal in their meat.

South Tahoe Now

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It was a normal day of skiing in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, December 7, 2018 for a couple from Oakland, California. They had parked their car on the top floor of the five-story parking garage at Heavenly Village, left their two dogs Titan and Comet inside and hit the slopes for three hours.

Upon return to their car they let the dogs out and played with them for a while, then stopped to remove their ski gear. Other people in the garage were playing with the dogs as well when, for unknown reasons, Comet jumped off the garage and fell five stories below. The couple grabbed Titan and ran to the edge of the garage and looked down to see Comet. PG&E has acknowledged to regulators that it found bullet holes, a broken transmission-tower hook and other flaws with equipment at sites where the catastrophic Camp Fire is believed to have started last month.

In its most detailed accounting yet of the problems that might have led to the Nov. 8 wildfire that consumed most of Paradise, the beleaguered utility told state officials that its inspectors have found a “broken C-hook” on a high-voltage tower near the community of Pulga, northeast of Paradise. A 4.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in Tennessee early Wednesday, officials said.

Two groups of Central American migrants marched to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana on Tuesday with a list of demands, with one group delivering an ultimatum to the Trump administration: either let them in the U.S. or pay them $50,000 each to go home, a report said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would intervene in the Justice Department’s case against a top executive at China’s Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL] if it would serve national security interests or help close a trade deal with China.
