Prisoners in 17 states across the country started a two-week strike Tuesday, calling for an end to “modern slavery.” Prisoners will abstain from going to work at their jobs, halt commissary spending, engage in sit-ins, and refuse to eat.

The main reason for the strike was an April prison riot at the Lee Correctional Institution in South Carolina that left seven inmates dead and a dozen more injured. At DEFCON 26, the world’s largest hacking convention that recently took place in Las Vegas, an 11-year-old boy managed to hack a replica of the Florida state election website and change voting results in less than 10 minutes. Organizers of the event said that at least 30 children were able to hack similar replica websites in under a half hour, including an 11-year-old girl who completed the job in just under 15 minutes.

A U.S. special forces soldier is accused of attempting to smuggle 90 pounds of cocaine from Cali, Colombia, into the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

Army Master Sgt. Daniel Gould, assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group, reportedly tried to smuggle the drugs on a military plane, but they were caught before the aircraft ever left Colombia and before the drugs made it onto the plane. BISMARCK—Police in Bismarck responded around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, to a call about a squirrel struck by a dart.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Tim Sass said officers responded after the caller described the squirrel as “acting weird” when it was running along a fence, and then it fell to the ground. The caller told police the squirrel had been struck by a large dart. The squirrel died as a result.

A local police department in Michigan is under scrutiny for tasering a suspect who was holding a two-month-old baby. While the child was left unharmed, social media users criticized the department’s use of excessive force.

Responding to a report about a possible physical assault of a woman, the Westland Police Department rushed to Raymurez Brown’s residence on Friday night. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Brown having a barbecue with friends. According to officials, Brown was yelling and confronting people outside his home. The Avatar-style ‘bot was revealed by Kalashnikov at the Army 2018 Fair just outside Moscow, as a ‘demonstration of what is to come.’

Police are investigating two incidents in which gunshots were fired at a luxury apartment building in Manhattan in the span of less than 48 hours.

No residents were hurt in the seemingly random shootings, in which bullets crashed through windows into two flats.

The smoke is worse than last year. Drove through two forest fires on Monday near Revelstokes, BC. One was huge and right on the highway. There were signs warning “Danger: Wildfires in Area” And I thought No Shit !!

CARACAS, Venezuela — A powerful earthquake has shaken eastern Venezuela, causing buildings to be evacuated in the capital of Caracas.
