A travesty of our criminal justice system.
There are nearly 100,000 people being held in solitary confinement today in America’s prisons. They are locked up in cramped, often windowless cells for nearly 24 hours a day. They eat alone. They exercise alone in small fenced-in areas known as cages or dog runs. They are almost completely segregated from the mainstream population and there are no programs available to them. Most aren’t allowed to make phone calls to loved ones. PICHER, Oklahoma (KFOR) — They are the most polluted places in America, specifically targeted because they are a danger to human health. Every year, millions of federal dollars are earmarked for clean-up of these areas, known as Superfund sites. When the Superfund program first began in the 1980s, Picher, Oklahoma, was #1 on the National Priorities list.
Today, it is a virtual ghost town.
It has been a decade since the federal government first declared the area uninhabitable. The Environmental Protection Agency bought out every willing resident, closed the schools, dismissed the mayor and dissolved the charter. Saudi Arabia’s king, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in what amounts to more than just a symbolic blow to the United States. While the two discussed a number of issues, including Syria and Iran, according to CNN it was oil that dominated most of the discourse.
Something geopolitically relevant — though it fails to garner widespread attention in the mainstream media — is the fact that Saudi Arabia and Russia “are engaged in an intense battle over who will be the top supplier to China, a major energy importer with an insatiable appetite for crude,” as CNN explained. A “gun violence” researcher at UC Davis suggests the correct response the heinous Las Vegas attack includes confiscation of “high capacity” magazines and a ban on gun ownership for people who abuse alcohol.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump struck a blow against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement on Friday in defiance of other world powers, choosing not to certify that Tehran is complying with the deal and warning he might ultimately terminate it.
Trump announced the major shift in U.S. policy in a speech in which he detailed a more confrontational approach to Iran over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and its support for extremist groups in the Middle East. The area controlled by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syria has been reduced to less than 8 percent as Syrian government troops, backed by Russian Airspace Forces, continue their successful advance in Deir ez-Zor Province.
“Islamic State currently controls 14,800 square kilometers, which is less than 8 percent of the Syrian territory,” said General Sergey Rudskoy, spokesman for the Russian General Staff.

At a House hearing yesterday, experts warned members of Congress that a North Korean EMP attack could kill 90% of Americans within one year, calling it an “existential threat.” But despite this looming crisis, the Department of Defense has just defunded the Congressional committee that has been studying the threat since 2001
The Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack has been around for nearly two decades, but their efforts have mostly been restricted to making sure that the U.S. national command authority and U.S. strategic forces could continue to function. Meanwhile “no major efforts were then thought necessary to protect critical national infrastructures.” Apparently, the plan was that our defense would be so effective, no further steps were needed.
