I write about and compare California with other states.  While I cover many aspects, most have to do with monetary issues — taxes, regulation, litigation, utility costs, education funding, etc.

Right to privacy? Don’t bet on it.

According to a Washington Times report, the FBI has admitted that it made extensive use for the last five years of a cell phone tracking program that can pinpoint callers’ locations and record their conversations — all without a warrant.

The program, called ‘Stingray’ was revealed at a hearing today in a federal court in Arizona by Justice Department attorneys in the case of U.S. vs. Rigmaiden.The 2008 case involves a man charged with identity theft. A  Navy SEAL from the elite SEAL TEAM 6 was killed and another SEAL injured Thursday night during a parachute training accident in Marana, Arizona, the military said. Details of the accident are not immediately available.

Legislation signed into law last year decriminalizing minor marijuana possession offenses takes effect on Monday, April 1.

Presently, possessing cannabis in the Ocean State is classified as a criminal misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $500 maximum fine. (Reuters) – Michael Steinberg, a portfolio manager at Steve Cohen’s $15 billion SAC Capital Advisors, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at his home in New York City early Friday morning in connection with a long-running insider trading investigation of the hedge fund, a FBI spokesman said.

(Reuters) – Russia said on Friday that heightened military activity near North Korea was slipping into a “vicious cycle” that could get out of control, implicitly criticizing U.S. bomber flights that followed threats from Pyongyang.
