For all those savers and investors young enough not to remember the 1971 American film classic, “Dirty Harry,” there is a scene in the beginning of the film in which the protagonist, San Francisco Detective Harry Callahan (played by Clint Eastwood) interrupts an afternoon bank robbery by shooting the three perpetrators as they try to escape.

Harry kills two of the robbers but one wounded bandit lying on the street contemplates picking up his fallen shot gun to shoot Harry. At this juncture, Clint Eastwood levels his .44 magnum hand gun at the wounded robber who is trying to recall if Callahan has fired all the rounds in his revolver. Callahan says, “I know what you’re thinkin’. Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) member and Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin was arrested yesterday for allegedly accepting bribes from an undercover FBI agent, as part of a wide-ranging federal corruption probe that netted six New York state politicians.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  A shop that sold a gun to the Newtown school shooter’s mother has lost its federal firearms license.

A grieving widow in Port Orange, Fla., has a statue of an angel in her front yard, a token of the happy years she spent with her husband before she lost him. But her neighborhood homeowners association says the statue violates community covenants, and if she doesn’t remove it, she’ll pay a fine, Orlando TV station WESH reported.

Norma Freiji (pictured above) was one of the first residents of the 13-year-old Ashton Lakes subdivision, and she said that she has always had yard art displayed. But now the HOA is asking all residents to remove statues in front and side yards. That means that cute figurines dotting many yards in the subdivision — pelicans, egrets, gnomes and even a basketball hoop affixed to a garage — must go. The Organic Prepper

A term coined in 1985 by an unnamed staffer of the Reagan administration was “Starve the Beast”.  This referred to a fiscally conservative political strategy to cut government spending by paying less in taxes.  So, in the original sense, “the Beast” was the government, and people were to starve the beast by spending less and using loopholes, therefore paying less in taxes.

These days the Beast has a lot more tentacles than just the government.  The system now consists of the government and all aspects of Big Business.  Big Agri, Big Pharma, Big Medicine, Big Food, Big Banking and Big Oil, to name a few.  It seems that now it’s the Beast doing the starving, as small businesses close because they can’t compete with Wal-Mart, the family farm is on it’s way out because it can’t compete with the huge, subsidized Monsanto mega-farms, people are going bankrupt because they can’t pay the outrageous medical bills…   Continue reading “50 Ways to Starve the Beast”

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP — The Michigan State Police say a 50-year-old Humboldt Township woman was shot and killed after officers responded to a domestic dispute.

According to police, Lori Lee was armed with a rifle when police arrived at the residence on County Road FS in Champion. The people of Maryland who feel strongly about the draconian gun laws passed by the legislator can help further punish Maryland by doing their shopping in neighboring states. The majority of Maryland residents are near enough to state lines that the added cost to transportation would not be prohibitive. Over the last two thousand years, the Jews have been expelled from more than a hundred different countries around the world. It would be obviously absurd to claim that all these evicting rulers and peoples, from all these different cultures and centuries, all decided to expel the Jews because they were “anti-Semites”, but instead it would only be sensible to look toward the Jews themselves for a possible motive for these drastic measures, and in fact, common sense demands it.

First consider that it’s no easy decision or task for any nation to force a segment of their population to pack up and leave, and in the case of the Jewish expulsions, we’re talking about nations who had already accepted their transient and ghettoized presence. If anything resembling “anti-Semitism” were the reason for their expulsion, they never would have been allowed to reside there in the first place. I believe we can logically conclude that the Jews have been thrown out of a hundred different nations as a result of actions taken by themselves, which actions they continually repeat, and that these same actions are among those that the rest of the human race finds intolerably offensive.    Continue reading “Never Again?”

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s proposed budget will call for reductions in the growth of Social Security and other benefit programs while still insisting on more taxes from the wealthy in a renewed attempt to strike a broad deficit-cutting deal with Republicans.

The proposal aims for a compromise on the Fiscal 2014 budget by combining the president’s demand for higher taxes with GOP insistence on reductions in entitlement programs.
