Oregon lawmakers say the Confederate emblem on the Mississippi state flag must go and are pushing to have the flag removed from a park near the state Capitol in Salem.

The flag’s “symbol of racist intolerance” is in “direct conflict with Oregon values of fairness and equality,” Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, told The Oregonian.    Continue reading “Oregon to Mississippi: Change the state flag”

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) recently reported that the federal government has directed all public and private schools to publish vaccination and personal belief vaccine exemption rates, even though less than 1.7 percent of kindergarten children have any vaccine exemptions and less than 1 percent of children under 36 months old are unvaccinated.1,2,3

This Centers for Disease Control (CDC) directive comes at a time when nationwide, 94 percent of kindergarten students have gotten multiple doses of federally recommended vaccines for the past three decades,4 including five doses of pertussis and two doses of measles containing vaccines.   Continue reading “School vaccination rates: What the CDC is not telling parents”

Last year’s National Defense Authorization Act allocated half a billion dollars to train “vetted,” “moderate” rebels to attack ISIS in Syria and also to overthrow the country’s sovereign government. This schizophrenic policy goal not surprisingly produced a total (after the others were killed, captured, or willingly gave their weapons to ISIS) of four or five fighters. Even this micro force of five ultimately found itself in the depths of embarrassment as it was carjacked by al-Qaeda. Half a billion dollars to have five guys carjacked! Put ten plumbers in a room and they could craft a more workable foreign policy than the entirety of the US foreign policy establishment.   Continue reading “Defense Spending Bill: $600 Million More to Train “Moderates” in Syria”

Months after President Obama agreed to “normalize” relations between the U.S. and Cuba, and after opening an American embassy on the island, Raul Castro, in an obvious move to embarrass Obama, has agreed to send Cuban military troops to Syria at Putin’s behest.

Putin has dropped 300 Cuban troops into Syria to help his ally President Bashar al-Assad, beat back ISIS and those CIA-backed rebels that are combating the terrorist group, as well as trying to topple him.   Continue reading “Cuban Troops Land In Syria, U.S. Dragged Into Proxy War With Russia”

Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, is also a contender for the Republican nomination for President.  He joins Far Left Senator Patrick Leahy in his efforts to get the Syrians in here faster.

Every time I see Graham, a proud member of the Gang of Eight on amnesty two years ago, I wonder whether Graham influences Rep. Trey Gowdy.  Does Gowdy share Graham’s position on immigration?   Continue reading “SC Senator Lindsey Graham advances bill to bring in MORE Syrian refugees, more quickly”

In spring 2003 an unnamed official at CIA headquarters in Langley sat down to compose a memo. It was 18 months after George W Bush had declared war on terror. “We cannot have enough blacksite hosts,” the official wrote. The reference was to one of the most closely guarded secrets of that war – the countries that had agreed to host the CIA’s covert prison sites.

Between 2002 and 2008, at least 119 people disappeared into a worldwide detention network run by the CIA and facilitated by its foreign partners.   Continue reading “REVEALED: The boom and bust of the CIA’s secret torture sites”

NAYPYITAW, Myanmar (AP) — Myanmar’s government and eight smaller ethnic rebel armies signed a cease-fire agreement to end more than six decades of fighting, but other more powerful groups refused to come on board, signaling that peace will remain elusive for some time to come.

The pact was signed at a ceremony in Myanmar’s administrative capital, Naypyitaw, by President Thein Sein and representatives of the groups. The refusal by the larger armies, such as those of the Kachin and Wa ethnic groups, to sign it robs Thein Sein of what he had hoped would be the crowning achievement of his five-year term.   Continue reading “8 ethnic rebel armies sign cease-fire pact with Myanmar govt”

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (AP) — The fatal beating of a young man and the savage attack on his younger brother by relatives and fellow members of an upstate New York church was intended to get them to confess their sins, investigators said, but they still haven’t determined what those supposed sins were.

Police said spiritual “counseling” at the Word of Life church turned into an hours-long attack Sunday night in which Lucas Leonard, 19, and his 17-year-old brother, Christopher, were pummeled with fists and kicked. They suffered injuries to the abdomen, genitals, back and thighs.   Continue reading “Police unsure what ‘sins’ provoked attack on brothers”

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Even as stewards of a historic cruise ship that carried princes and presidents frantically pursue deals to preserve the vessel, they fear rescue efforts will sink without a large infusion of cash by month’s end.

The SS United States has issued many mayday calls over the past few years, but its overseers recently retained a broker to explore selling the defunct luxury liner for scrap. “She’s faced peril before, but this feels different,” said Susan Gibbs, executive director of the SS United States Conservancy. “And what is so excruciating about it is that we have made so much progress during the past year on redevelopment.”   Continue reading “Historic cruise ship sends out mayday call for funding”

Following last month’s milestone decision to keep the beleaguered greater sage grouse off the endangered species listing, federal agencies in Utah have temporarily closed more than 233,000 acres of public and national forest lands for up to two years while they determine if the lands’ importance to the ground-based bird habitat is such that they should be made off limits for a longer period.

The temporary closure would not affect existing permitted activities on the lands with the shutdown only applying prospectively, the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said. The federal agencies are taking comments on the proposal through Dec. 23.   Continue reading “BLM Puts ‘Off Limits’ Sign on 233,000 Acres in Utah”
