One of the largest real estate developers in the country has submitted plans to demolish a row of five Beaux Arts-style tenement buildings in the East Village to make way for a luxury hotel specifically branded to draw millennials, despite the a push from local preservationists who argue the buildings should be given landmark status.

Opponents to the planned Moxy Hotel also find it suspect that demolition permits have been submitted by Lightstone Group, which is headed by David Lichtenstein—a developer who has made sizable donations to New York Democrats and was recently appointed by Mayor de Blasio to the NYC Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors. In defense of their case that the tenements should be protected, opponents note that the Landmarks Preservation Commissionrecommended the block of East 11th Street between Third and Fourth Avenues as a possible historical district as recently as 2008.   Continue reading “Activists Fight Demolition Of East Village Tenement Buildings To Make Room For ‘Millennial-Focused’ Hotel”

WEB Notes: At least the guy is honest and you know which side he stands on. More than I can say for our elected officials who change their tune depending on their audience. Globalism is where the world is going and has been going for years. Need documentation? Look around. When you buy something in the store where is it from? Anywhere but the US most of the time. Wait, some of the trash we buy says Made in China “with American parts” boy that makes me feel better. How many jobs has this nation lost to other countries for cheaper labor? Countless. Now that this nation has been sucked dry we see millions of illegals entering the nation and being welcome by the government who is more than happy to offer your tax dollars to them in the form of welfare. This nation, the last barrier against globalism is coming down and coming down fast.

The State Highway 130 toll road project, the first of its kind in the Texas, was a failure. The foreign company that owned and operated the route filed for Chapter 11 in March. Now a federal bankruptcy judge will decide who gets to own this infrastructure asset that Cintra, a Spanish company, built almost entirely with borrowed funds. A hearing on the proposed settlement is scheduled for September 21 in the federal bankruptcy court in Austin.

SH130 had little chance for success. Initial traffic forecasts proved wildly inaccurate, and the road posted operating losses month after month — it was $258,941 in the red for May. Without a positive income stream, Cintra was unable to cover payments on the $1.6 billion in liabilities that had accumulated.   Continue reading “Texas: Failed Toll Road Divvies Up Ownership”

Last summer, Kenneth Clavasquin was arrested in front of the Bronx apartment he shared with his mother. While the 23-year-old was being processed, the New York Police Department took his possessions, including his iPhone, and gave him a receipt detailing the items in police custody. That receipt would be his ticket to getting back his stuff after his case ended.   Continue reading “Police Can Use a Legal Grey Area to Rob Anyone of Their Belongings”

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  — You don’t want to lick this off your fingers, no matter how good it smells.

KFC introduced a new, limited offer Monday, “Extra Crispy Sunscreen,” and, well, you can guess what it was. That’s right: the fast-food chicken chain gave away free bottles of sunscreen that smelled like — what else? — fried chicken.   Continue reading “KFC made sunscreen that smells like fried chicken — no, seriously”

White Lives Matter staged a rally outside the NAACP’s Houston headquarters on Sunday, sparking controversy and counterprotests in a city where racial tensions remain high after a string of recent incidents.

Clutching Confederate flags, white supremacist signs and, in several cases, assault rifles, roughly 20 White Lives Matter members stood on the sidewalk of a historically black neighborhood to denounce the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.   Continue reading “Armed, Confederate flag-waving White Lives Matter protesters rally outside Houston NAACP”

THE 2016 ELECTIONS have seen a surge in contributions from “ghost corporations,” so-called because they are not functioning businesses or non-profits, and hence seem to exist solely to shield their owners’ identities.

Ghost corporations are a particularly dangerous and alarming new twist in campaign financing in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision. They make a mockery of one of the central claims of that decision: that “prompt disclosure” and “transparency” would allow U.S. democracy to survive the unlimited flood of money into elections from individuals, corporations and unions.   Continue reading “Revealed: The Secret Donor Behind “Children of Israel,” the Ghost Corporation Funding GOP Super PACs”

The spot price for gold and silver is dead.
We seem to have the makings of a major disconnect, and it is worth talking about:  the mining indexes are raging, while the spot price “markets” are looking more and more like the ugly step-sister nobody wants to dance with
.
Billions of dollars are flowing into gold and silver miners, yet all the while PM “price” continues to lag, largely because it is set by the traditional flawed paper derivative dinosaurs.  Regardless of how or why this is occurring (deliberate plan or free market), one thing seems evident:
HUI is the new Spot Price, and Spot Price is Dead!   Continue reading “The HUI is the New Gold and Silver Spot Price, Spot Price is DEAD!”
