LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca was convicted Wednesday of obstructing an FBI investigation into corrupt guards who took bribes to smuggle contraband into the jails he ran and savagely beat inmates.

The verdict was the 21st and final conviction in a wide-ranging corruption investigation that overshadowed a distinguished 50-year law enforcement career abruptly halted by Baca’s 2014 resignation from the nation’s largest sheriff’s department as the probe spread from rank-and-file deputies to his inner circle.   Continue reading “Ex-LA County sheriff convicted of impeding FBI’s jail probe”

A U.S. federal proposal that could see B.C. grizzly bears captured and shipped south to Washington State has drawn such a huge response, the public comment period has been extended for more than a month.

More than 100,000 people have weighed in on the proposal to reintroduce grizzly bears to the North Cascades ecosystem in Washington State, said the National Parks Service.

That number has seen a huge boost in the past week, due to an online campaign by the popular Seattle cartoonist Matthew Inman, better known as The Oatmeal, who supports the plan to move grizzlies.   Continue reading “Border-crossing bears? The Healthcare reform legislation unveiled by GOP Leaders on Monday night would, at best, leave untouched a confirmation system that allowed up to 500,000 illegal aliens to access taxpayer-funded benefits over the years of the Obama administration. According to a 2016 Senate report, the government supplied $750 million of Obamacare subsidies to individuals whose immigration whose immigration status didn’t quite match up to legal status. The GOP plan would leave in place that very same verification process, or worse, destroy the verification process altogether.   Continue reading “BETRAYAL: Paul Ryan’s Healthcare Bill Would Allow Illegal Aliens To Receive Taxpayer Funded Care”

A media cameraman who tried, unsuccessfully, to mediate the Bunkerville standoff gave hours of testimony Wednesday while federal prosecutors played shaky, handheld footage that provided a more dynamic view of the protests than anything previously disclosed on dashcam recordings.

The government called Dennis Michael Lynch as a witness after fighting ferociously earlier in the week to keep the footage he captured out of court.   Continue reading “Cameraman testifies during Bunkerville standoff trial”

Prescription drug therapy has been a major contributor to the soaring rates of serious, disabling or fatal injuries, according to a 2011 study published in the British Journal of Medicine. Data from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices showed that anticoagulants dabigatran and warfarin were the most frequently identified medications that were reported to the FDA, suggesting that treatments designed to inhibit blood clots top the health risk index among prescription drugs. Nine other drugs were also shown to meet five criteria for clinically-relevant injuries associated with drugs.   Continue reading “Prescription drugs declared “one of the most significant perils to human health” by British medical journal”

Many both within and beyond America’s borders labor under the delusion that US policy is determined by the nation’s elected representatives amid a careful balancing act between the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government. In reality, the inner workings of US policy resemble nothing of the sort.

In reality, an unelected deep state controls the United States, its resources, government, and people. However, the term “deep state” has been overused and intentionally abused, particularly since the election of US President Donald Trump in an effort to continue concealing the real deep state and divert public attention away from what is becoming an increasingly obvious continuity of agenda from one presidency to the next.   Continue reading “Exposing the Real Deep State”

It’s the confirmation hearing nobody was watching.

Thursday morning, the Senate Finance Committee held a confirmation hearing for Seema Verma, the Trump administration’s pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Though relatively breezy by confirmation-hearing standards at just under three hours and relatively low on theatrics, Verma’s low-key hearing will help determine the health outcomes for over a third of all Americans.
