June 6, 2017 – The contingent of the Ku Klux Klan that has applied to hold a July rally in Charlottesville is reportedly led by an FBI informant who has been charged in the stabbing of another Klan member.

In December, authorities in North Carolina arrested Chris Barker, the self-identified leader, or “imperial wizard,” of the Loyal White Knights of the KKK, based in Pelham, North Carolina. That same group has applied to hold a rally on the steps of the Charlottesville Circuit Court on July 8, as first reported by The Daily Progress on Monday.

Demonstrators came from across the country to gather at the White House in support of undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as toddlers and children.

Five years ago today, President Obama signed an executive order protecting them from deportation. It’s known as DACA — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

Now immigrant rights groups — and immigrants themselves — worry that opponents and President Trump’s administration are quietly working to revoke protection for DACA participants — young people like Claudia Quiñonez from Bolivia:   Continue reading “Five Years In, What’s Next For DACA?”

Reginald Walton, the Pastor for Phillips Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. “They have no place in our society. At best, they belong in a museum.”   Continue reading “Debate rages on over fate of Confederate monuments in Arizona”

BEIJING (AP) — China has urged the United States and North Korea to “hit the brakes” on threatening words and work toward a peaceful resolution of their tense standoff created by Pyongyang’s recent missile tests and threats to fire them toward Guam.

The dispute has also raised fears in South Korea, where a conservative political party on Wednesday called for the United States to bring back tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula. In a sign of growing concern on the part of Pyongyang’s only major ally, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, that the two countries should work together to contain tensions and permit no one to “stir up an incident on their doorstep,” according to a statement posted on the Chinese foreign ministry’s website.   Continue reading “China urges US, North Korea to ‘hit the brakes’ on threats”
