SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas — The gunman who opened fire in a small Texas church, killing 26 people during worship services, sent threatening text messages to his mother-in-law before the attack, which appeared to stem from a domestic situation, authorities said Monday.

Shocked former classmates who attended middle and high school with Texas church gunman Devin Patrick Kelley described him Monday as being heavily medicated and someone who kept to himself — despite a deluge of posts on his apparent Facebook profile about weapons and atheism.

The “Fat Leonard” corruption investigation has expanded to include more than 60 admirals and hundreds of other U.S. Navy officers under scrutiny for their contacts with a defense contractor in Asia who systematically bribed sailors with sex, liquor and other temptations, according to the Navy.

Most of the admirals are suspected of attending extravagant feasts at Asia’s best restaurants paid for by Leonard Glenn Francis, a Singapore-based maritime tycoon who made an illicit fortune supplying Navy vessels in ports from Vladivostok, Russia to Brisbane, Australia. A US service member has been killed during operations in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Logar on Saturday, according to the US military. It is the same region where another soldier was killed in a helicopter crash last week.

The US Forces Afghanistan Command in Kabul confirmed the fatality in a statement, without giving details of the deceased’s identity or the circumstances of his death.

Twitter no longer believes in “speaking truth to power,” according to its latest rules update in the midst of US lawmakers’ frantic hunt for “Russian meddling” in social media.

Speaker Paul Ryan said Sunday Republicans are discussing whether their tax plan should include a repeal of the Obama health law’s requirement that people have insurance coverage or face a penalty, a step pushed by President Donald Trump but seen by some GOP lawmakers as possibly imperiling a much-needed legislative victory.

It would be another shot at further undermining the Affordable Care Act after repeated failures by the GOP-led Congress to repeal and replace the law. After Rand Paul was assaulted by a neighbor on Friday, a spokesperson for the Kentucky senator said he was “fine.” On Sunday afternoon, a senior adviser, Doug Stafford, revealed that the senator actually suffered five broken ribs, and it’s unclear when he’ll be able to return to work.

“Senator Paul has five rib fractures including three displaced fractures,” Stafford said. “This type of injury is caused by high velocity severe force. Democrats are renewing their calls for gun reform after reports of a mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday.

Multiple people are dead after gunfire erupted at the church, which is not far outside San Antonio, according to reports.

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas — The gunman in Sunday’s church mass shooting had in-laws who attended the church — but those in-laws were not present at the time of the massacre, according to Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt.
