WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate began a major, free-for-all immigration debate, its first in nearly five years, on Monday evening that could decide the fate of at least 700,000 “Dreamer” immigrants, young people brought into the country illegally years ago as children.

Shortly after 1pm ET, the shares of Dollar General and Dollar Tree tumbled after it was unveiled that President Donald Trump’s budget was proposing to effectively abandon food stamps, slashing the program’s traditional cash payments and substituting them with packages of “100% American grown food” for recipients. A candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates was dragged out of a hearing after listing the donations received by state lawmakers from fossil fuel companies. She was testifying on a bill on oil and gas drilling rules.
Lissa Lucas was criticizing a proposed bill, HB 4268, which would allow oil and gas companies to drill on private land with the consent of just 75 percent of the landowners. Energy companies are currently required to have 100 percent approval from landowners before they can extract gas and minerals from land. The US president’s daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, was taken to hospital as a precaution after opening an envelope containing white powder, police say.
The letter was addressed to Donald Trump Jr, Mr Trump’s eldest son, at his apartment in Manhattan.

The American Civil Liberties Union in Oregon filed a lawsuit against the federal government this past week challenging the presence of immigration deportation officers at courthouses in the state.

The White House on Monday officially released a 55-page proposal for President Trump‘s long-awaited infrastructure overhaul.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday he has been discussing with the United States the possibility of Israel annexing Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, drawing swift condemnation from Palestinian leaders.

About 120,000 Teamsters across Long Island and New York City are preparing to become a “sanctuary union,” and learn how to deal with immigration officials at their workplaces, The New York Daily News reports.
Supervisors and front-line workers are learning about their rights and how they can respond when officials come to their place of work.
Training topics include learning about different types of warrants and what constitutes a raid. They are also being trained on how to respond if union members are stopped while driving or confronted at home.
