Amazon has ordered 20,000 Mercedes-Benz vans for use in a new package delivery service, more than four times as many as the retail and technology giant anticipated when it announced the program this summer.

The vans are part of Amazon’s effort to meet its rising demand for trucks and personnel to take items from its warehouse network to customers’ doorsteps, called last-mile delivery in the industry. SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. (AP) — Truckers abandoned big-rigs and motorists screamed in fear as they came dangerously close to an explosive wildfire that shut down about 45 miles of a major California interstate near the Oregon border that authorities were desperately trying to reopen.

Burt Reynolds, the mustached sex symbol of the 1970s and 1980s, who ruled the box office with good-ol’-boy movies like Smokey and the Bandit and earned the critical praise he so badly desired in Starting Over and Boogie Nights, died Thursday in Florida of cardiac arrest, his agent confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment. He was 82.

As much as Reynolds represented an era, he also stood as a timeless cautionary tale. For the first time since a devastating earthquake and tsunami triggered meltdowns at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011, the Japanese government says a former plant worker has died as a result of radiation exposure.

Another crack has been found on a notorious San Francisco skyscraper that is slowly sinking into the Earth.

 Inspectors have issued a violation to management of a sinking building after a large crack formed in a 36th-floor window.

The high-rise condominium building called the Millennium Tower- dubbed by locals as the Leaning Tower of San Francisco – is the tallest residential building in the city.
