Philadelphia officer fired at in city’s third shooting incident targeting police in past three weeks
Philadelphia police on Wednesday were hunting a gunman who fired at an officer sitting in an unmarked car — the third incident in which cops have been targeted in the city over the past three weeks.
The plainclothes officer was conducting surveillance around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Kingsessing neighborhood when an unidentified man saw him and opened fire, striking his vehicle twice, FOX29 reported. The officer escaped unharmed and the gunman, who is said to have fired off eight rounds, has been described as a male around 6 feet tall last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt. Australian special police forces seized a total of 475 guns across the country in a week-long crackdown on illegal firearms, according to AAP (via Yahoo).

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday withdrew an extradition bill that triggered months of often violent protests so the Chinese-ruled city can move forward from a “highly vulnerable and dangerous” place and find solutions.
Her televised announcement came after Reuters reports on Friday and Monday revealing that Beijing had thwarted an earlier proposal from Lam to withdraw the bill and that she had said privately that she would resign if she could, according to an audio recording obtained by Reuters. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution declaring the National Rifle Association a “domestic terrorist organization” and urged the federal government to do the same – the latest escalation in the heated rhetoric from Democrats regarding the NRA in the wake of several deadly mass shootings.

The gunman who went on a rampage in West Texas Saturday was deemed mentally unfit and had been banned from buying firearms in the criminal background check system, according to the Wall Street Journal.
36-year-old Seth Ator, who a neighbor described as a “violent, aggressive person,” killed seven people when he opened fire in an Odessa movie theater after being fired from his oil services job earlier that morning. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to an incident that ended in an officer-involved shooting in the 3000 block of Second Street in Silver Springs on Monday. It came after calls for a physical domestic battery.
“There were two 911 calls that came in. Upon arrival of the residence, things escalated rather quickly and shots were fired inside the residence,” Lt. Jerry Pattison, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. “One deputy was injured and the individual who had attacked the cops was pronounced dead on-scene.”

(Reuters) – A 14-year-old American boy shot and killed five family members at their home in Alabama, before throwing away the pistol and calling police, officials said on Tuesday, in the latest high-profile gun crime.

Over the holiday weekend, a gun-wielding group of people tried to storm their way into a Houston Popeyes outpost in search of the chain’s elusive chicken sandwich.
The attempted sandwich robbery allegedly went down on Monday night at the Popeyes location at 7159 Scott Street in Southeast Houston, according to ABC 7. After being told in the drive-thru line that the location was, like all other Popeyes restaurants, sold out of chicken sandwiches, a group of five people reportedly tried to storm their way into the restaurant, and one man involved was carrying a gun.
