Under the guise of a religious movement that abstains from the sins of the modern world, Mexican Mennonites with connections to some of the world’s most vicious cartels have established a drug smuggling pipeline near the Alberta border.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) indicted seven people and seized 11,000 pounds of marijuana destined for the midwest states. It also confiscated 30 kilograms of cocaine that was bound for several small towns in Alberta. Investigators say the drugs were ultimately destined for Calgary, where dealers can turn a higher profit than in the United States. China produces and consumes two-thirds of the world’s pork, but output is plunging as Beijing destroys herds and blocks shipments to stop African swine fever. Importers are filling the gap by buying pork as far away as Europe, boosting prices by up to 40% and causing shortages in other markets.
African swine fever doesn’t harm humans but is fatal and spreads quickly among pigs. It was first reported in August in China’s northeast. Since then, 1 million pigs have died and the disease has spread to 31 of China’s 34 provinces, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. Americans today are more closely divided than they were earlier in the last century when asked whether some form of socialism would be a good or bad thing for the country. While 51% of U.S. adults say socialism would be a bad thing for the country, 43% believe it would be a good thing. Those results contrast with a 1942 Roper/Fortune survey that found 40% describing socialism as a bad thing, 25% a good thing and 34% not having an opinion. An Al Jazeera video which accused Israel of exploiting the Holocaust to carry out a Nazi-like policy of “annihilation” against the Palestinians has been deleted following accusations of anti-Semitism.
Posted on the Arabic version of Al Jazeera’s popular current events channel, AJ+, the short commentary video argued that while the Holocaust did in fact happen, the total number of Jews killed by the Nazis was “inflated by the Zionist movement” to create international support for the creation of Israel. Guatemala’s towns are emptying out as a growing number of migrants head north to accept the Democratic Party’s offer of open-border loopholes and low-wage jobs, say a growing number of local reports.
