A settlement in a seven-year-long legal battle between the House and the Justice Department over records related to a gun-running investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious was publicly announced Wednesday just as similar clashes continue to intensify between the House and the Trump administration.

The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over an unredacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and President Trump’s efforts to obstruct the probe.

After trailing in results postings Tuesday night and early Wednesday, final unofficial results posted late in the afternoon showed a reversal of fortune — with Initiative 301 set to pass narrowly with 50.6 percent of the vote. Flash flooding has killed at least one person and prompted evacuations, road closures, school closings and rescues in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma as storms trek across the Midwest and southern Plains.

The severe weather may also be responsible for a fire that broke out at a natural gas refinery in Columbia County, Arkansas, Wednesday evening. KSLA News reported the fire was caused by a lightning strike. A dispatcher for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office told weather.com that firefighters were on the scene but no other information was available. Two gunmen opened fire at a suburban Denver STEM school on Tuesday, killing one student and injuring eight others. The incident happened less than 10 miles from Columbine High School, which recently mourned the anniversary of its school shooting 20 years ago.

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said in a news conference that two suspects — 18-year-old Devon Erickson and an unidentified female juvenile — have been apprehended in the shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch, which includes grades K-12. Both suspects are believed to be students at the school. Paul Ryan is front and center once again, calling for cuts in Medicare and food stamps.  Ryan said that spending on food stamps had increased by 40% in the last four years, trying to put forth the notion that those on food stamps are getting 40% more than they were four years ago.

A Portland man who offered four times to pay a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent thousands of dollars to have his estranged wife and daughter deported last year was sentenced Monday to four months in prison.

Antonio O.
