Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning legislation that would hamstring the Supreme Court and allow the prime minister to secure immunity from prosecution over corruption charges, Israeli daily Haaretz reports.
The proposed law would allow Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, and ministers to disregard the court’s decisions in administrative matters, according to Haaretz, allowing it to annul any decision to strip Netanyahu of immunity from prosecution. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — U.S. Border Patrol will begin transporting more than 1,000 migrants a month to South Florida — split between Palm Beach and Broward counties — from the southern border within two weeks, according to U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and sheriffs from both counties.
Rubio was first to reveal the plans Thursday afternoon on Twitter. The sheriffs — Ric Bradshaw in Palm Beach County and Gregory Tony in Broward County — then announced they have been told to each expect 135 migrants seeking asylum to be flown into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport every week. The share of U.S. workers born outside the country rose again last year, hitting the highest level in decades, boosted by steady immigration and a drop in the native-born birthrate.
Foreign-born workers — those not born in the U.S. nor have U.S. citizens as parents — accounted for 17.5% of all U.S. employees in 2018, up from 17.1% in 2017, the Labor Department said Thursday. The category includes people born abroad who are now U.S. citizens, immigrants and those in the U.S. temporarily. Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has indicated that he will sign a bill aimed at combating anti-Semitism in public education, and it could occur during his planned trip to Israel later in the month.
DeSantis made this statement during a trip in Miami Gardens, Fla. The bill would bar discrimination on the basis of religion in the Florida public education system, including at state-funded institutions of higher education, and specifically hone in on anti-Semitism. Police fined a pedestrian £90 for disorderly behaviour after he tried to cover his face when he saw a controversial facial recognition camera on a street in London.
Officers set up the camera on a van in Romford, East London, which then cross-checked photos of faces of passers-by against a database of wanted criminals. The Trump administration has forked over more than $62 million — taxpayer cash that was supposed to be earmarked for struggling American farmers — to a massive meatpacking company owned by a couple of corrupt Brazilian brothers.
The Department of Agriculture cut a contract in January to purchase $22.3 million worth of pork from plants operated by JBS USA, a Colorado-based subsidiary of Brazil’s JBS SA, which ranks as the largest meatpacker in the world.
