SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — Enforcement issues surround two Northern California cities’ bans on high-capacity magazines.

The Oakland Tribune (http://tinyurl.com/lvtufr3 ) reported Saturday that since Sunnyvale’s ban went into effect midnight Thursday, not one of the now-illegal magazines has been turned in. San Francisco police report that they have no system to track whether any magazines have been turned in for destruction under the new ordinance. San Francisco residents must surrender their high-capacity magazines to police by April 7.   Continue reading “2 cities struggle to enforce ban on gun magazines”

It’s highly unusual for the U.S. Attorney General to step into state matters, but that’s exactly what Eric Holder has done, telling his counterparts at the state level they don’t have to defend certain laws they feel are discriminatory — specifically, laws against gay marriage, the New York Times reported Monday.

“Mr. Holder was careful not to encourage his state counterparts to disavow their own laws, but said that officials who have carefully studied bans on gay marriage could refuse to defend them,” the Times added.   Continue reading “Eric Holder to state attorneys general: You don’t have to defend laws against gay marriage”

The advent of mobile apps and websites that allow more people than ever to listen to police radio chatter prompted two local law enforcement agencies to follow a growing trend across the country – encrypting police radio traffic.

What that means is news outlets and the general public will no longer be able to hear when a traffic accident blocks a major intersection or an armed standoff results in evacuations.   Continue reading “Law enforcement agencies are encrypting radio transmissions citing bogus officer safety concerns”

Public discussion on Ukraine is all about confrontation. But do we know where we are going? In my life, I have seen four wars begun with great enthusiasm and public support, all of which we did not know how to end and from three of which we withdrew unilaterally. The test of policy is how it ends, not how it begins.

But if Ukraine is to survive and thrive, it must not be either side’s outpost against the other — it should function as a bridge between them.   Continue reading “Henry Kissinger: How the Ukraine crisis ends”

Most of you here say guns in the hands of people can defeat tyrants. Regardless of what you may hear from naysayers and firearms ‘hobbyists’ who will tell you AR’s and AK’s in civilian hands are no match for tanks and machine guns (I remember one such hobbyist posting this here on Calguns), I come before you to tell you that what you believe to be true it is true: on December 22nd 1989 me and thousands of my compatriots we did just that.   Continue reading ““Why Do I Fight For 2A Rights?””
