The New American – by Alex Newman

The Founding Fathers created the U.S. government for the express purpose of securing the God-given individual rights of Americans, according to the Declaration of Independence. A poll released last month, however, confirmed yet again that a majority of voters now view the perpetually expanding Leviathan as a threat to those rights and individual liberty. More than one in three Americans even fears the federal government, the recent poll showed, confirming other surveys finding broad public agreement that Washington, D.C., has become dangerous and out of control.   Continue reading “Poll: Most Americans View Feds as Threat to Liberty”

Have you ever chased a slick-skinned, sixteen inch bullfrog around the kitchen while your mama’s hollering, “get that frog out of my house”? Fried frog legs were a staple when I was growing up. Not the whole frog, just the back legs. Nothing better – nothing tastier, more succulent than fried frog legs. Yep, its true. Those legs would twitch and sometimes jump clean out of the pan. Always keep the lid on. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County had nothing on these big boys once they warmed up from the ice chest.   Continue reading “Fried Frogs and Commissars”

When Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed his state’s so-called guns everywhere law, it marked the latest in a string of legislative defeats for gun-control activists. Since the December 2012 Sandy Hook murders, 20 states have loosened gun laws . Georgia has now upped the ante with a bill that allows people to carry concealed weapons into bars, churches, schools and airports and prohibits law enforcement from requiring someone to show their gun owner’s license.    Continue reading “Framing the danger of guns as a public health risk will change the debate over gun control”

ODESSA, Ukraine (AP) — Outrage over the deaths of pro-Russian activists in riots in Odessa triggered new violence Sunday in the Black Sea port, where a mob of protesters stormed police headquarters and freed dozens of their jailed allies.

The activists had been jailed for their involvement in clashes Friday that killed more than 40 people — some died from gunshot wounds, but most from a fire that broke out in a trade union building. It was the worst violence in the Ukrainian crisis since more than 100 people died in Kiev in February, most of them shot by snipers.   Continue reading “Pro-Russian crowd storms police HQ in Ukraine port”

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Sinn Fein party leader Gerry Adams was released without charge Sunday after five days of police questioning over his alleged involvement in a decades-old IRA killing of a Belfast mother of 10, an investigation that has driven a dangerous wedge into Northern Ireland’s unity government.

Addressing reporters and supporters at a Belfast hotel, Adams said he wanted his party to provide help to the children of Jean McConville, the 37-year-old widow taken from her home by the Irish Republican Army in 1972, killed and dumped in an unmarked grave. He also rejected claims by IRA veterans in audiotaped interviews that he had ordered the killing.   Continue reading “Sinn Fein’s Adams freed after 5 days in custody”

NEW YORK (AP) — Coca-Cola is dropping a controversial ingredient from its Powerade sports drink, after a similar move by PepsiCo’s Gatorade last year.

The ingredient, brominated vegetable oil, had been the target of a petition by a Mississippi teenager, who questioned why it was being used in a drink marketed toward health-conscious athletes. The petition on Change.org noted that the ingredient is linked to a flame retardant and is not approved for use in Japan or the European Union.    Continue reading “Powerade drops controversial ingredient”

The selling out of Ukraine: what the CIA does not want Ukrainians to knowThe Voice of Russia – by John Robles

Press Secretary for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has stated that the so-called authorities in Kiev will, in the end, have to answer primarily to the Ukrainian people for their actions with regard to the ordering of military operations against civilians in the south eastern part of Ukraine. However the members of the junta government in Kiev who are responsible for ordering what they have tried to label as an “anti-terrorist” operation, one which has seen the participation of fighter aircraft, armed troops and the death of protestors continue to operate with impunity.
