Free Thought Project – by Claire Bernish

Energy Transfer Partners, the company responsible for construction of the hotly contentious Dakota Access Pipeline, has another controversial pipeline project with the potential to contaminate drinking water and the environment and destroy an area in Texas described as sacred and environmentally vital — and the ruthless company has been suing landowners to snatch their property for its own profiteering.

Known as the Trans-Pecos pipeline, the relatively short 143-mile project would carry natural gas from western Texas’ Permian Basin — likened to “America’s Saudi Arabia” as the country’s “Most Important Oil and Gas Resource” by Forbes — across the border into Mexico. But this project will run through the state’s pristine, remote Big Bend area, considered sacred to some and an environmental treasure to others, and — despite Texas’ long history of devotion to Big Oil and Gas — has sparked vociferous debate about property rights and corporate power.   Continue reading “Media Silent as Company Behind Dakota Pipeline Steals More Land in Texas for a Different Project”

Received the following email from Wade:

Dad called me this morning crying, which is so rare I have only heard it three times in my life. They have been on vacation for for four months and were returning to Vegas in a week or so. My mom was not feeling very well so Dad took her to the hospital. An hour after the tests they informed my Dad that she has terminal cancer.

If you could please say a prayer for Mom.

A meeting about lifting a moratorium on building the first-ever mosque in a quaint Georgia county was canceled this week after officials discovered a video in which a self-described militia group threatened violence.

“Unfortunately in today’s society, uncivil threats or intentions must be taken seriously,” Newton County Manager Lloyd Kerr said of the video, which he said appeared to show the militia group possibly “trespassing on private property, and exhibiting harassing or violent behavior.”   Continue reading “Georgia Mosque Construction Delayed Over Militia Video”

Manhattan, Kansas is in the news due to a mysterious illness sweeping through schools and making hundreds of children ill.  Natural Blaze reports:

Symptoms include the necessity to go home due to stomach issues like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. At first, officials thought it was norovirus (highly contagious stomach flu). Indeed, the media reports and officials were certain it was norovirus and a major outbreak had practically downed a Nevada school last year. However, as the sickness continues, this idea has been abandoned even though it spreads in a similar manner.

Danish Joakim Eskildsen photographer spent about 7 months working on this project. He spent all this time with poor people from different cities in America documenting their everyday life.

I’m asking for your moral support on this story, because there are times in journalism when we must be extremely mindful of balancing the public’s need to know the truth with respect for the privacy of those involved. So I ask you this serious question: What would you do in my situation?

What would you do if you had a very large audience of health conscious consumers and the ability to tell millions of people about something really, really important? What would you do if you then found out that the founder of a well known superfood manufacturer and retail brand had died almost six months ago, most likely stemming from the fact that many of his products were loaded with concerning levels of heavy metals such as arsenic and lead?   Continue reading “Famous superfood company covers up death of its own founder to keep selling high heavy metals products; customers kept in the dark”

Attorneys representing the family of a woman fatally shot by police following a standoff she posted on social media filed a wrongful death suit Tuesday.

Baltimore County Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said the officers shot and killed Korryn Gaines, 23, after she barricaded herself inside her Randallstown apartment with her 5-year-old son and pointed a shotgun at officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant. The warrant was on charges stemming from a March 10 traffic stop that included disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.   Continue reading “Family of woman killed by police in Maryland files lawsuit”

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday will vote on H-1B legislation aimed at closing a loophole that has made it inexpensive to replace U.S. workers with visa holders.

But the bill, introduced by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), and Scott Peters (D-Calif.), is worrisome, as well. It may do little to protect U.S. workers from displacement, say critics, who fear the legislation — if approved — could be used as a cudgel against more comprehensive H-1B reforms.   Continue reading “H-1B bill advances in House — as does anxiety about it”
