he death of our collie Bonnie in 2006 hit my husband Frank and me so hard that it was almost a decade before we considered taking on another dog. But, late in 2015, my daughter mentioned that a friend of hers had a jack russell that was about to have pups. Familiar with female dogs, we decided that if there were any bitches in the litter we would take one. That’s how we ended up with Molly.

Picking her up involved a round trip of about 200 miles, but it was love at first sight. She was a tiny wee doggy, only 11in long and 6in high, and she weighed about a kilo and a half. She had delicate features – very feminine-looking.   Continue reading “Experience: my dog underwent gender reassignment surgery”

A dreamy summer vacation turned into a messy, sweaty nightmare for 10,000 tourists on the Outer Banks when the power went off and air conditioners stopped humming, and officials ordered visitors to leave Friday because the outage could last days or perhaps weeks.

People and cars lined up to get on ferries, the only way off Ocracoke Island. Gas stations ran perilously low on fuel and ice. Workers at a cafe improvised by using flashlights to make sausage biscuits on a gas stove and people searched for anything cold to eat or drink in the thick, humid air.   Continue reading “‘A Man-Made Disaster.’ 10,000 Tourists Forced to Evacuate North Carolina’s Outer Banks”

I talked on the phone today to a woman who’s being victimized as a Targeted Individual after filing for divorce from her husband, who came from a wealthy banking family. Among other injustices she has suffered, she told me that when her brother attempted to send her $8,000 in cash by FedEx to help her in May of 2016, it was stolen from her by Homeland Security.   Continue reading “Sen.
